just bought 88 lude si 4ws and i need some major help

hi guys im new to the forum and i have quite a bit on my hands.

i bought today a 88 lude si 4ws knowing it had some issues and now i really need your help. mainly i want to try and get the idle fixed when you start it for the first time it goes straight to its normal idle no fast idle whatsoever. but when you take off drive it doesnt really "go" until the rpms get up there a lil bit and the second i hit the clutch the rpms raise to about 3k and dont come back down for a while. and it does this every time no matter what gear unless your in neutral already sitting still ( like upon startup)

problem 2. the fuel pump works perfect...until the car warms up to operating temperature. then when ever you shut the car off the pump wont come back on until the car has cooled slightly. im thinking its the relay but ive tried to find it and im having an issue

help me please

To answer problem 2 first, the symptoms you are describing sound like it could be the main fuel relay. It's located under the dash on the driver's side, mounted to the side of the fuse panel. Here is a link which describes where it is and one possible fix for it...

Main Relay Fix

As far as your first problem goes, first do an oil change and tune-up. Are there any trouble codes?

i dont think so but the led light on the ecu wont light up. i think it is the ecu starting to fail. the car started to randomly loose power to everything if it was driving it would just shut off and the fuel works most of the time.

i read somewhere that the ecu could erratically not send power to the pump and cause issues with the idle.

i pulled it out yesterday and some of the circuits in it look bubbly.

It's very rare for the ecu to fail in a 3rd gen, but it can happen. I'd still do the fix on the main relay from the link I posted first since it's free. Then if that doesn't change anything you can go from there.

The LED on the ecu is for reading trouble codes. I don't believe it's supposed to be on unless there is a problem. I'll check mine to make sure since id doesn't currently have any trouble codes stored in it.

sorry its been awhile since i posted but it wasnt the ecu i replaced the ignition switch and that solve the power cut off issue and today i got the main relay out and took the cover and man was it filthy. i cleaned the gunk off and am about to resolder the points on it and i hope this fixes the fuel pump ( and maybe everything else hehe)

Hopefully the main relay fix takes care of your problems.

yup fuel pump works all the time now. the only thing left to do is figure out why the car wont fast idle and the rpms wont come down when clutch is pressed. im pretty sure the iacv is causing it or something idk. im going to have it diagnosed before i spend 180 bucks
