ok so im thinking of buying a 89 lude SOHC.. first off the transmission is missing 3rd and 5th gear.. what could the problem be there? synchro?? or whole trans?
Answer: Are you saying that there is no 3rd or 5th gear or that it grinds going into those gears? Bad synchros will cause grinding, but not cause ou to lose gears. More serious tranny damage would cause that.
2nd... i would like to do a motor swap to a H22A1.. what would i need to do to make the swap and would it be worth the money spent?
Answer: It's going to be a lot more work than if you were doing this swap on a fuel injected 3rd gen (replace all wire harnesses, replace fuel tank, add a fuel return line to the tank). You'll basically have to convert it to fuel injection, and also do the h22 swap. Almost like two swaps in one. Is it worth it? I know of a couple people who have done it on the carbie lude and they said it's worth it to them.
3rd. .if i did the swap would the original trans be fine if fixed that is or would i need a new trans for the H22??
Answer: You can't use a 3rd gen transmission with the h22. You would want to buy the h22 and a manual transmission together.
im thinking of doing this cuz i can get the car for $400 from a friend.. it has 150K on it now all stock... i wanna make it kind of a project car but unsure if worth it? any help or suggestions would be great.. thanks
Answer: You are looking at more than $3000 easily for the h22 swap after all is said and done, and that's if you do it yourself. You'll probably spend more than that. If you have the money, I'd say it's worth it to have a 3rd gen with approximately 200 bhp. And I haven't heard one person who has done this swap say that it wasn't worth it.
