I have a problem with my 88' - Honda Prelude Forum

Okay i have an 88' b20a5 prelude and its totally stock. theres a metal on metal clinging sound in the right front (looking at the car) at 1900-2100 RPM. Its not the heat shield on the headers what could it be iv looked around for it for about 3 weeks now and cant figure what it is.

It's actually the downpipe. The stock downpipes have a double walled construction, and if you get any kind of dent in the outer pipe it can rattle against the inner pipe. Sometimes it can rattle even if there are no dents. There is a name for this, it's called the 2000 rpm exhaust rattle. I eliminated mine by installing an aftermarket header. Here is one guy's fix for it if you want to keep it stock...
