help with shift cable problem

I can shift into 1st,3rd,and 5th and it will engage but when I shift into 2nd,4th,or reverse it does not engage.Would this be the shift cable gone bad? When I do shift into any gear it is really tight.

have you inspected the cables for any kinks or breaks? the cables typically fail right before the clips that retain them to the bracket on the trans. if you go look there and have someone run through the gears and you see the cable bowing, it is bad and needs to be replaced. pretty easy to do if it is that. pm me if you need a set.

I had my wife do do the clutch while I watched and seen no cable bowing. It actually looed like it was working correct.I could see where it goes into the transmission pushing in.

have you tried to adjust the cables beneath the shifter bezel? trans could be going bad or be low on oil also.

its a pain to do, but disconnect the cables on the tranny side too to make sure they aren't binding in the cable sheathing. rust could be playing a part, but i doubt it.shoots some wd down the cables and then apply some wheel bearing grease behind the boots to keep moisture out of the cables.
