Good Deal?

Hey guys, a person in my area is selling a 1990 Prelude for $500. It needs a new battery, radiator, and front bumper cover. It is dark blue and has 170k miles on it. I own a 5th gen '01 Prelude and don't know anything about other Gens, so would this be a good deal?

New radiator would be about $200 so $700 total.

of course it is. No matter what that Lude is like you can make 2-3k if you part it out bolt by bolt.

Sweet stuff, thanks guys. According to seller the prelude runs it just needs those parts mentioned. But if it does need a radiator then I'll need to tow it, and I don't have any way to do that. We shall see what happens.

I think I know which car you're talking about (Priest River?). It's been in craigslist for forever if it is. Be careful when buying a car that supposedly runs but just needs 1 thing (usually a part that you can't run it without). Go into this with the idea that the engine is bad if you have no way to verify that it runs. I'll spare you the story, but I have learned this lesson the hard way. Ask him if you can put in a radiator if you find one so you can drive it away. If it really runs he will probably let you do this.

Even so, $500 for a 3rd gen with a bad engine that is otherwise in good condition is not a bad price. If it's the car I'm thinking about, the seller is desperate to get rid of it so you can try offering him less for it. The bumper cover is not difficult to replace, or find replacements for in N. Idaho/E. Washington.

Yea that's the car. Unfortunately he really was desperate to get rid of it. I offered him $500 for a pick up on Monday, but he sold the car to a guy for $400 who could pick it up Sunday night. Hats to believe he couldn't wait 12 hours for a hundred bucks more.

like I said you could have made 2 or 3k easily if you parted that car out piece by piece on ebay. Just the seats and the glass are worth 600.

Next time make a move and dont wait.

That's pretty funny. Around here I can get front and rear seats for $34 total and all glass including the sunroof for $85 from the junkyards. Please share with me who will pay that kind of money for those parts and I'll split the profit with you.

Would you like to see the price list from the junkyard where I buy most of my parts? Yes...$34. I'm not joking. It would cost you more to ship them.
