fan stays on when engine off, is this normal?

My engine fan on my 91 2.0 Si stays on for a while after i shut my car off. Is this normal? I have never heard this on any of my other hondas. The person i bought my prelude from was kinda shady. Plus im sick and tired of people coming up to me and telling i left my car on.

your fan should stay on... that last thing you want is for your engine to stay hot, even when your not running it. A lot of cars have the fans go on. I have a 91 prelude and a 2000 neon, and they both do it. it isnt going to drain your battery down or anything. If you follow the wires from your fan, you can see what i mean.

yeah, me too. "what is that noise" or "dude you r car is still on". oh well. but maybe check your thermostats. it started getting really warm around here the last few days, and now the thermostat is sticking, i think. the temp gauge goes up, stays there for like 20 secs, then all of a sudden drops down to normal, only to do it again. when the temp gauge is up, there is like no hot air coming through the heaters, but when the gauge starts to drop, it all of a sudden comes really hot. i fugure it is the t'stat.

Hondaman it is you Thermostat. I had the same problem with mine. It's just in the early stages og wearing out so get it change ASAP, and it is recommended to due a coolant flush at the same time. By doing this the fan will not go on. After I changed my thermostat and did a coolant flush the fan on car rarely goes on compared to be b4, It went on yesterday though cause I drove for 45mins and it was sooo hot outside. If you don't change your thermostat you risk blowing some seal and gaskets in your engine from the heat.

Well, I don't know if that's normal, but I do know that when you turn your car off, and the fan kicks on, it's normal, especially if you've been runnin your car hard. It's not a PROBLEM, it's normal.

My dad's previous car was a Renault 25 2.2 GTX and his fan came on after the car was off.

Today my car was parked next to an old knackered rusty Audi. The driver parked up and left the car, about 2 minutes later the fan started. It stayed on for a few minutes.

I know it is possible to modify a car so that the fan starts automatically (when engine is off) when it normally wouldn’t. My car is 5th gen and unfortunately, it doesn't do that. One day, when I have got nothing better to do, I will look into it.

it's because it is an electric fan. it will come on ANY time the engine temp gets above a certain point

when ur idleing at a stoplight or in traffic your cars radiator isnt getting fresh cool air, so the fan comes on to cool her down. our fans are pretty loud, cuz the b20a5 and b21a1s get pretty hot compair to other motors, so the fans are louder since they are larger. i do suggest that everyone checks their coolant tho. add some water if the fan seems like it comes on all the time and runs for more than 15 mins
