fan noise from heat/AC

There is fan noise when i turn the heat or a/c on, that is abnormal, from behind the glove box. Also it seems like the fan isn't pushing out as much air as I would expect while on full, compared to other cars, is that normal? Is the fan that blows the air located behind the glove box? I have the glove box removed, and I see a black corrugated tube that's plugged into something. My thought is a fan is clogged or warped, would appreciate some guidance on how to get at it.

I found the manual to download. It seems I can't remove the blower without removing the A/C also, which seems complicated because I have to disconnect a line from the engine compartment also. The blower motor won't come out without removing the whole blower, maybe a cheap fix as far as parts but terrible labor?

I managed to get the blower motor out part way, and removed some leaves/sticks in it, but it still makes noise. I'm a bit perplexed shouldn't there be an air filter to stop debris? When I look under the hood where the air intake should be, there is just flat metal with 2 philips screws that turn but don't come out. Does the air intake come all the way from the driver side to under this plate? Is there any filter? Thanks...
