Hey folks, I was just wondering what the duct work that runs behind the engine is for. I have an 88 SI 4WS I'm workin' on.The part comes off just before the airfilter and runs next to the firewall and has a short drop section to it.It is kind of a PITA to get back in there so I left it off. Should I put it back on?I searched for this thing but found no specific answers. Thanks for any ideas.
No one knows for sure, but when engineers design intake systems, they usually focus on reducing noise as much or more than they design for performance. It's been speculated that the dead end chambers are there to help reduce intake noise. It won't hurt anything if you don't hook that back up.
