automatics have a sportshift mode.....

..............perhaps your brain gets sportshift confused with sequential shift ?

the third gen auto's have a "Sport Shift" but it's not the same as in the 5th gen's. it just lets you hold 3rd gear.

If you learn your gears, and can use your gas pedal to switch gears along with the pressure plate in the tranny.... the automatic in S3/S4 is great Of course, its taken me a year to get to know my tranny so well I can tell it what gear to go into when I want power and not

Have fun. Its a great great great car!

say you're in S4....

You're at a stop. Well, to get a good start at a race with my car, I"ll hold the brakes down, or use the e-brake... and rev it up a little, so theres some torque. When I go, I'll let go of the brakes and pound the pedal. But, theres certain points of pressure that the most power comes... and over time, I've learned them.

Now, say I'm accelerating... getting up my RPMs. If I just hold down the pedal, it will sooner or later switch gears, but not when I want..... so, around 5200,5300 RPMs, I let off of the gas a little.... not all the way, just enough, and slam it down to the right pressure for the most performance going into second gear.

Its almost like I'm driving a standard... but using my gas pedal as a clutch... even though its not. I can do this all the way up the gears. The tranny in our car is sweet

You probably realized that in our cars, if you hold it down, its a very jerky tranny, and isnt geared perfectly, like most autos.

That help?

aight i got a question. i got an auto too in my 88 Si 2.0. thing is, autos are so much more inefficient than manuals. (though i must say this auto seems better than a lot of other ones i have driven). question is , i'm putting in I/H/E and then cam gears. i have no clue how much power increase this will give me on an auto, i've looked at dyno charts for manuals, but i guess my auto would be less efficient , which gives leaves me with just a little extra power. nywayz, if i put in a turbo, would i be wasting my money? would i have to much power loss in the tranny to make it worth the trouble? is anyone runnin a turbo on an auto lude? also, are ya'll tranny's pretty rough when shifting? i doubt mine has any problems, tranny fluid is pretty new, i'm just not sure if its just an older tranny thing to shift this rough

Clean Baldy: thnxs, i was just makin sure, i guess auto trannies have smoothed out a whole lot over the years lol

now all i'm wondering is if i should bother saving up for a turbo or if its not worth it with my automatic.
