Dash Removal / Wiring / AC System

Very recently my car began to smoke very lightly from under the dash. Luckily I was in the residential streets of my neighborhood, so it was only smoking for a very short period of time.

After I pulled up to my house and inspect the problem I was able to find the wire which had been burning from under the dash. I was also able to find the other end of the wire in the engine bay and it too had began to burn.

To fix the problem my first intention was to find where the wire led to and see if it would be able to be replaced / repaired.

In the process of doing so I have taken out the entire dash board. THIS IS WHERE I NEED HELP:

- The wire does not go straight the through the fire wall immediately (From what I can tell with the dash out.) It instead follows along the inside of the fire wall. The wire's general direction is from the inside fuse box, along the inside firewall, across to the passenger side, and then I think it goes under the right side fender and then comes out and connects to the main fuse box in the engine bay.

If you noticed I said "I think" this is because this is all I can see with only the dash out.

The wire is not visible along the firewall of the inside of the car, because it is covered by all the AC system ducts. Which is the next thing present after you remove the dash.

- So remember, there is a burned wire, and I would like to replace it since it appears to be burned on both ends. (I'm hoping that it has not began to burn along the whole wire.)

- But in order to do so the requires removing the air ducts.

- Does anyone have any recommendations in general?
- Is there anything to watch for and be careful about when attempting to remove the air ducts?
- Should I even remove the air ducts?
- Is there anything else you would recommend instead of what I am doing?

Any and all help is very much so appreciated, if there is anything unclear or if you have any questions about anything please ask and I will answer it ASAP.

Thanks!
