HEY. I JUST GOT A 91 LUDE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND NEEDED SOME ADVICE. I KNOW THERE ISN'T TO MUCH OUT THERE FOR THE 3RD GEN LUDE'S BUT I WAS WONDERING WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD INTAKE FOR THE 3RD GEN FOR $350 OR UNDER. ANOTHER QUESTION, DOES CUTTING THE SHIFTER ON 3RD GEN'S MAKE A DIFFERENCE OR IS IT ALL JUST FOR LOOKS? THANKS. P E A C E.
Originally posted by polarwhitesi you could make your own intake for way under 300 bucks. and the shifter, if you think about it, it makes the throw shorter, but not by much.
I agree on the shifter but I wanted to add that you lose leverage to actually change the gears when you cut the shifter. This makes it a bit tougher to shift. You just have to put a little more muscle when shifting. You might not even notice it though if your shifter shifts smooth!
As for the intake, take a look here (http://www.teamdelsol.com/howto/coldair/diycoldair.htm). It's a good writeup on how to make your own CAI. It's done on a Del Sol but everything will work for your lude....just have to use your stock intake as your example.

i was thinking about cutting my shifter down a little bit more and putting a bolt on it with another piece of metal. so i could adjust the "stick" forward or backward, for more leverage.
OK EVERYONE........WHAT IS THE BEST INTAKE (NON-COLD AIR) THAT I CAN POSSIBLY GET FOR MY 3RD GEN?? ALSO IS IT TRUE THAT GETTING AN INTAKE FOR 3RD GENS ONLY INCREASES HP BY 3HP??? THANNKS....
AEM makes some good short ram intakes for a '95-'99 Civic. Ludespeed makes a whole ram air kit. . .not sure of the price though. The numbers an intake will produce vary on other mods, and engine condition in general. (I may be wrong in my assumption, so if I am, correct me). At the least it will increase air flow and help future mods. A good reference would be the 3rd gen N/A build up article on hondaprelude.com. Good luck!

hondaprelude88, the third gens shift linkage is unique. no other honda made has one just like it, so no shift kit will work, unless you can modify one in a way.
if you stair at it for a while and play around with adjusting the position of it and such, i think it can be done. i did it once, but i guess i never made the piece. it was probably too hard for myself, because of resources. i dont remember what i came up with tho, a guy from hp.com said he was going to do a write up of how he did his. dunno how soon it will be up tho.
If you want a growl, I found an intake that really sucks - figuratively of course. It is a miodified hi-velocity 5" with a cone filter. Super light and you don't need to relocate a thing. It comes with everything and its only $120.00US including shipping, hardware and its brand new ! Give me a shout at spazm@shaw.ca
I found shifting was quicker but required slightly more force when you cut it down by 1 1/2". Its great for power shifting !
Cheers!
