91 Si is dying...slowly

Hey guys,

So I'm new to the site, I've had my 91 Prelude for about 2 years now (I'm the second owner), there was a slight oil problem (leaking/burning some) when I bought it. I'm no mechanic but I know enough to get by. Right now I'm putting a new quart of oil in every 1-2 weeks or couple hundred miles, and there's about 190k miles on the original engine. I had some work done last year, but all anything will do at this point is buy time till she dies...

...so my question is: engine replacement? Is just getting a rebuild done the best way to go? Or buy a replacement engine? Also, I'd be interested in some minor upgrades (intake, exhaust, etc) this summer, to learn some more and just to make driving a bit more fun. Any advice/help would be great, thanks

It all depends on your budget, if you can afford it h22 is a great way to go. But more likely you should look for a b20a, you can get them for like 800-1000 shipped and then pay a mechanic a little to install it. If you're looking to get a little bit more pep out of your car, cams help a lot. contact coltcams.com and they will be able to help you with it, I personally recommend the stage 2 triflow cams. While it's out though at least do a timing belt, water pump and clutch as it will be a lot easier than if it's in the car

Thanks, I've been reading up about the h22 and b20's and stuff. I'd like to get a new car, but being on a college kid's budget makes that a non-option, plus I love driving my honda. A friend of mine knows a guy who can get honda engines fairly cheap apparently, so if i can get the h22 for a cheaper price i might do that...otherwise the b22a is all I need (i hear they can run at about 160 hp?) I'm not looking to rice the Prelude out or do any serious racing...but when some high school kid listening to rap in a neon with a loud muffler pulls up I'd like to be able to put him in his place

As far as those cams go, what do they usually run at price wise? I've got some car nuts for friends (most of them make fun of me for driving a honda, then I laugh when they're paying out the nose for gas and repairs on their german cars) who'd gladly help me out. Thanks again for responding to the post...any scrap of information I can get is golden
