Okay I'm not very good at working on cars but I'm going to give you the whole story any help is greatly appreciated!

I purchased this car two days ago (this is my dream car) from an individual who said it ran great a couple of weeks ago but someone broke into it and took the radio and battery; now it wont start. The battery was replaced and so was the distributor. The engine cranks over and wants to start but you can smell a hint of gas and it doesn't start. A more mechanically inclined friend of mine told me that the coil is receiving a spark to it but not from it. We have three coils that are used and we tried them, it didn't start; the probability of all of them being bad is not very high but still possible. Does anyone have any recommendations? I think I found the problem. The control module that tells the coil to send the spark to the distributer may be bad. I ordered the module and it comes in on Tuesday; I'll let you know how it works. Just wanted to post this in case someone else had the same problem and wanted some info.
