89 B20A5 to jdm B20A w/Transmission Questions
i have searched on this topic but have gotten so much controversy on this issue. One person says this, and another person says the complete opposite.
I Have an 89 4WS 2.0SI. About a year ago the timing belt broke and the pistons smashed the valves. Since then I have been trying to get another head at the local junkyard but the 4 that i have gotten are all trash and typically where in worse condition than mine which had bent valves. So a couple days ago my local engine importer ended up having a Jdm B20A at his shop so i picked it up.
I pulled my motor out of the car. (*Original*)
Engine: B20A5 (229,000 miles)
Transmission: D2J3 (229,000 miles)
(*New Engine picked up*)
Engine: B20A (unknown mileage)
Transmission: D2J4 (unknown mileage)
Right of the bat I checked the clutches and the clutch that I pulled out of the B20A5 did not fit on the D2J4 Transmission shaft (the spline teeth are different). I have no clue what year or model this transmission came out of. I have been searching and it seems that it came out of a 89 carb model? However my axles fit right into the new trans (D2J4)
My questions are
1. Should I use the new tranny (D2J4)? ( seeing as the originaly D2J3 has 229k)
2. What year and model did this trans come out of so that if I do use it I can order the correct clutch.
3. Are the gears in the (D2J4) tranny longer or shorter?
4. Should i change my throwout bearing? (Reason I ask is the one that came out of the transmission(D2J4) I just picked up looks to be in pretty good shape, and Honda has Discontinued. My only other option is to use a "timkin" bearing.
I am new to the prelude scene, i know all about the newer B series stuff. I have a fully swapped integra etc, But since this series engine is not compatible with any of the other B series stuff, I am completely lost -____-
If you guys need pictures of anything to help aid in getting information. I will get them on here ASAP
