3rd Gen Engine Questions

I recently bought a 1991 Lude. I was wondering if I could put my H22 VTEC into it? Would there be enough room? If there was enough room, would I have to change out transmissions?

Yes, you can put a H22 in your 3rd Gen. Yes, there is enough room. Yes, you will have to use a different transmission than the one you currently have.

I have been working on cars for 9 years, I do not understand why people say it is so hard to do. Not bashing you or anything, but could you explain the reason's why you say its hard (compared to the the G4's)?

Thank you, its been really hard finding them. Do the Motors/Trans... come with mounts? I know i'll have to replace the clutch, re-drill holes in my firewall for lines/pipes, is there really anything else to replacing it for Gen3 to Gen4?

I saw a thread somewhere where a guy put an H22 into a 2nd or 3rd gen, I don't remember which. I believe he said he spent ~15K total on the swap, but he did not mind spending the $$ on custom axles, mounts, header/exhaust, etc.

If you have been working on cars for that long this would seem like an easy thing right?

I've probably spent 1 total month working on cars but having an understanding of cars is completely different. This is not a civic platform where honda used it for many various models so you could interchange things.

This is a prelude, the test bed for Honda's newest technologies (for the most part). Most things aren't shared as it was it's own platform.

So if you have been working on cars that long you should know research is your friend. The 3rd gen prelude is 20 years old. Do you honestly think you are the first person to think of the h22 in a 3rd gen? If not, then why wouldn't you first search because I know I've seen at least a handful of threads about this very subject.

This is almost along the lines of "can you put a ls7 in a s2k?" The answer is yes, but it's a pretty big "yes".
