ahh jeez.... now i gotta get my hands on a 90-91 tranny, rip out the internals and put 89 internals in... plus a cruise only 6th gear... or maybe just a 90-91 with a 6th gear with a slightly lower ratio than 5th in my 89...

That is fawking awesome! I'm buying you a beer next time I see you Todd! So...we now have an LSD application for our cars...this will spread like wild-fire through the 3g community. Good work Todd!

Now, we have the minor detail of the 88/89 speed sensor working on the 90/91...

Edit: Wait...if these PN# are true, then how come Quaife hasn't looked into putting the 3g Prelude down as an application? I'm sure Quaife has looked into this before, no? Or maybe it was just huge hindsight on their part?? hmmm...

I forgot to mention- the '90 tranny that I got had the SAME sensor on it as the '88 gearbox I have. With the cable connection on top.

Can anyone verify WHEN the electronic speed sensor went into effect? On what models?

I still need to check the "real" database, but Majestic shows that in '90 ALL models lost the cable, which would tell me that they got the electronic sensor. I would think that they would swap over with a little rewiring... I know the 4g and 5g was like that.

What pisses me off is that this means the dip**** who sent me the transmission sent me the wrong one- it HAS to be from an earlier model (88 or 89) if the newer one did NOT have the speedo cable.

back to an earlier comment about the relationship to the H series... does this mean you can use a 91 tranny to interface w/ a h22? i thought we had to change the tranny as well...

The cases are different, as are the bolt patterns. So, no. But the internals might swap (at least some of them).

OK... I got ripped.

According to my Helms (1988):
2.0Si: D2J5
2.0 carb: D2J4

According to Redliner's Helms (1989):
2.0Si: D2J3
2.0 carb: D2M4

The tranny I got is a D2J3- so it's an '89 Si tranny. Ah, well... I might send a diff to Quaife to see if they can match it with anything, anyhow.

Damn, that sucks I say chunk it and try again I've seen 91 trannies going for $75 on Ebay before...a custom diff from Quaife is going to be mucho dinero.

BTW, the octane rating was RON. 91 RON ~ 86 US...so I guess that's about right.

hate to bring this back but a 6th gear in my 91 tranny would be nice. i had a 89 si with the 91 b21a1 it would do everything on speedo but i wrecked the car and pulled motor and back into 91 it went. now i dont know about numbers but i really miss that top end. granted with this 91 tranny i can go through gears fast. 40mph 2k 5th gear. 60mph 3k 5th gear and about 4250 at 75 and at 95 its a little over 5k. now my 89si would smoke my 91 down the highway. in town think 91 has it. now both cars has same motor just different ecu. dc sport header cold air intake high flow exhaust etc.. but has anyone added a 6th gear yet what gear ratio would be best bet or what could be used as a sixth or even better maybe accord 5th gear after our 5th. my 94 accord with the sohc vtec f22 would do 45 in 1st. double that in second. its governed at 120 so not sure of 4th and 5th but they seem really tall gears. oh ya just to confirm the electric and cable speedos bolt in back of tranny the same way. and the shaft from 91 was bigger but same number of splines. and yes the clutch is slightly bigger in diameter from 91.
