1989 Prelude engine swap.

Hi i'm currently trying to do an engine swap on my 1989 Honda Prelude Si 2.0L. Recently my water pump locked and the car threw a rod. My dad is currently looking for another engine but the only ones we can manage to find are ones liek theses:JDM ENGINE H22A VTEC 92-96

If anyone can help please help me. My dad and other people tell me to junk the car but i refuse to do it because i love this car too much. Thanks.

I'm in a similar situation, I just bought an 89 that needs a new engine. The owner neglected to change the timing belt and....ya. When I check the oil, you can tell there's coolant in it. I pulled the valve cover, no visible damage(not surprised). I'm leaning towards doing an H22 swap. Any suggestions, advice would be great.

the h22 is the obvious choice, the motors are available, and the swap been done so much now it's almost too easy.

however, those motors are expensive to find, and might not be the best idea for a gotta-get-the-car-to-be-more-reliable-asap kinda deal.

but the h22 swap kit will actually swap ANY h or f motor. you can pick up accord F22s and F23s (SOHC) all day long for way less than an H22. might be a better get it and go option.

there are some people playing with an B18 swap, but the kits aren't in production yet.

My dad just recently told me that if he did the H22 swap it would bent/destroy the frame of the car. Please tell me he's lying.

It's not going to bend/destroy the frame anymore than the stock engine. I've decided to just rebuild my B20A5, doing the H22 swap is generally for luders with years of experience. It's also much more expensive.

Lol, your dad is lying to you. There have been many 3rd gen h22 swapped cars. As a dad, I can see where he's coming from. I wanted to tell my son the same thing a few years ago when he wanted to swap a 20 valve blacktop engine into his 1st gen mr2, lol.

Just know it's a lot of work, and you will probably get frustrated many times and want to quit (which is probably why your dad told you that). It's also a little more work for 88/89 ludes because they are obd0. So you'll need a wire harness adapter along with all the other necessary parts for this swap.

My advice to you would be to rebuild your b20a5. It will be a lot cheaper and easier. And maybe consider the h22 swap down the road after you've done your research on what all is involved with that swap.

JIS JAPAN ENGINE - Rebuilt Engine Kit Long Short Block Gasket Valve Seal Bearing Timing Belt Tensioner Piston Pump

HCHB20D costs $250.00 + $125.00 core charge
That's for a rebuild cylinder head(B20A5).

Lol, you will get more help if you post that question in the 5th gen section. I doubt many in the 3rd gen section will know the answer to that.

As far as I know, you shouldn't need to.
Hope, you get it on the road soon, what brand valves did you get?
