1988 Honda Prelude RPM Question

Hello all,
I have a 1988 Honda prelude Si 4ws. I am just curious as to how many RPM's I should be running when I am driving around 65-75 MPH. Right now my car is running about 3500-3900. I think this is quite a lot.
I have a newer Honda accord and its only running 2200 at 70mph. Granted its newer and an auto.
So the question is, how many RPM's should i be running at 70mph and if mine is incorrect how can i adjust it?
Thanks in advance.[/FONT]

That's normal believe it or not. I can't tell you off the top of my head how many rpm's i'm turning at 70 because the highest speed limit around here is 60, but at 60 it's just a hair over 3000. And on my last trip to Seattle, which is about 600 miles round trip, I averaged 34.4 mpg. So the high rpms aren't hurting fuel economy either.

I know that 3rd gens with auto transmissions are geared higher, but I don't remember the speeds/rpms for them. Don't worry about it, these engines were made to run at that rpm level for sustained periods.

mine are running around 70mph at 2900 rpm. 3000rpm should go around 75mph.

I'm assuming that you have an automatic transmission with those numbers.

Can you post up which transmission you have? You can look on the transmission housing near the starter to find the tag with the transmission code. I haven't heard of a manual 3rd gen with that low of cruising rpm's. Also, what year and trim level do you have? And the most important thing I'd like to know is what kind of highway fuel economy do you get?
