Yet another wiring question from widemouthlude (about head unit)

While helping me with an amp install and a rewire of the headunit, my friend accidentally pulled the memory wire out of the factory harness. When we put it back in, the wire was dead. We tested it with a test light and it wasn't getting juice at all, not even when the car was running. Cobsequently we had to find a wire that went hot when the ignition went on to hook up the memory. We couldnt use the remote wire for some reason (i think that may have had the same problem as the memory wire) so everything (head unit and amps) are getting turned on my the cigarette lighter positive wire. Since that wire isn't a constant hot, I have to reset my levels EVERTY F***IN TIME I start the engine. This is really reallt annoying. I have been living with it for almost a year now but i really wanna get it fixed. Does anyone know anything about this? Even if u dont know how to fix it, why did it happen? I really wanna know. I'm about to break down an run to the Honda dealership with my tail between my legs between this problem and the turn signal problem.....and while they are at it maybee they can solve the damn intake rattle too. 3 annoying problems = very annoyed prelude owner. Although i guess i cant blame anyone but myself

The remote (blue) wire is a switched wire. I assume you are refering to the +12v (yellow) power wire. I would either find somewhere to tap a new one (with a constact source of power), or run another line to the battery. You mentioned amps, perhaps you could tap into that wire (assuming it was hooked up to the battery).

The 4 gauge amp power wire is hooked up to the battery with an inline fuse connector. I also have two switches coming in for 1. washer nozzle lights that i dont use and s awitch for a non-existant after market fog light set up (stone took out one of the fogs) Are the amp power wire, and the power wires going to the switches constatly hot? If yes, which one is the best to tap into? And if i do tap into those wires, will the drawl of power for the radio memory drain the battery? Im concerned about this because these wires were not designed for the purpose of radio memory and they may drawl more power than they need to store memory.

Nah, the radio will draw the same amount of power to retain its memory regardless of how its connected to the battery. The amp power cable will always be hot since its connected directly to the positive terminal of the battery. As far as the switches, it depends on how they were orginally wired. If the (unused) fog light circuit is still hot, i would tap into that, mostly so you wont have to go through the hassle of stripping and tapping that mega amp wire.
