Would regular gas hurt an Si long-term? (Prospective purchase)

I'm thinking about buying a 94 Si...
http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/71421922.html
...and when I asked, the dude said he runs it with regular gas . This has been going on for thousands of miles. Could this have hurt the engine, or compromised the future performance potential?

-Dan

P.S. Let me know if you think that dent is repairable

Almost anything is repairable, it's just a matter of $$$. It looks like that dent would cost at least $1000 to fix.

If he's been running lower octane gas, the ECU will retard the timing. I'm not sure what the long term effects are, but I personally wouldn't buy that car. The repair to the body would tack on another $1000+. And since the guy has been running on regular gas, I wouldn't trust his maintenance on the car. But, if you're set on buying it, I'd take it to a mechanic to have him look the car over.

That is an EXPENSIVE dent to fix. The whole 1/4 panel would have to be replaced, and that's a big, welded in piece.

regular with an Si won't hurt it (as long as it hasn't been switched back and forth every other time). and yes the dent is repairable, but its going to be costly... very costly.

my lude is for sale too *cough*cough*

its a 92 Si with JDM H22 152K on the chassis, ~47K on the engine. body is strait, only door dings, just needs paint which i would take care of before the sale. it would be about the same price or a little cheaper than it would be to buy that car and fix the massive crumplage. ~6300 after it gets painted.

it would come with lots of upgrades and JDM goodies (upgrades does not necissarily mean performance). let me konw...

A friend of a friend who does body work for a Honda dealer says he'd do the dent for $300-$400, although I don't know how the result would look. BTW, I like the term "dent," it has a rich understatement value.

I agree with the thing about how he might have maintained it. I am a very cautious buyer about previous maintanence, which is why I'm asking about this gas thing in the first place. The reason I'm considering this car is because it's so cheap for an Si.

Also: notice how it has three right-side wheels and one left-side wheel?

Lucke: Your car looks interesting, if a little pricey. The problem is, you're in L.A. That's outta my range, since I can't see it and drive it.

that will not be able to be fixed for that cheap. maybe if it were the front fender, but not the whole rear quarter panel... that has to be replaced.

i would be more than willing to drive up to where you are if you were going to buy this. the few people who have driven my car can vouch for it, and those that know me know that i take meticulous care of the mechanical parts.

like i said the paint looks like ass... its all faded on the top and severly oxydized. but i'm getting ready to prep it for paint.

its not a little pricey if you look at what it has... JDM fogs, JDM folding mirrorss, VTEC sub, ES motor mount inserts, 4bidden short shifter, AEM SRI, custom 2.5" cat back exhaust, 17x7 ADR DTM's and oh yeah... JDM H22 swap.

PM me if you want any more details.

Do you have pics? What color is it now/going to be?

I know I'd love your car, but I want to drive something less modified. The VTEC is good, the JDM lights and mirrors are a plus, the new paint is definitely a plus, but the exhaust is a minus. I drive on the freeway sometimes for an hour or more and I don't want my car to be louder than stock. Also, the 17s are a little excessive. My ideal car would be clean but doesn't try to draw too much attention to itself.

How's the suspension?
