I have a 92 lude with the F22 motor. I can't afford an H22 right now, but am thinking of getting an exhaust, pistons, rings, valves, cam, resleeve, bore and valve springs. (one at a time) to build up the motor to take more power, whether it be a big shot or hopefully one day a turbo. Is it worth it? Are there ANY fast F22's?!?
I decided to mod out my F22 anyways, just kidding i hate when ppl do that. Guess ill stick with what I got till I can afford a swap. Thanks for advice.
Actually.. Stop where you are. My buddy Chris Bohl tells me that F22A's are the BEST for turbos (of the three models-s, si, vtec) due to their compression ratio.
Originally posted by 93VTECLude The f22 may have a low compression but that dosent mean everything. A Geo Metro has low compression but the motor still isnt any good for turbo.....
the f22 is a very capiable motor. I don't see why so many people knock it. Just cuz it isn't a dohc or a vtec, doesn't mean it is a **** engine. Sure, the basis isn't as great as the VTEC, but that is part of the sense of accomplishment when you whoop a vtec or an Si in a race.

THink of it this way about time you do all that work on the f22 you could have a vtec with some mod's.Labor alone will kill you for all that build up with that motor, just think of it this way you will have to work that much harder to be as good as a hooked up
si or vtec, trust me i used to be in the same boat as you just think
about you need a better starting point having vtec will do that for you.

I agree, after all that work you'd be lucky if you are near 200 hp, and what do you mean you can't afford a H22 swap but, you gonna do all that other stuff, if you gonna put that money into the F22 why don't you just swap???

Well, any time i have any money in my pocket, i have to spend it, so i figured I would do valves&springs one month, pisons & rings the next, etc.., I'll just have to learn to save my money. My GF has an H22 and I love that motor, except for the low-end lack of torque (not that I can really talk). Thanks for all the advice ppl

Then your going to be paying out your ass for labor cause your going to have to keep going back into the motor unless your going to by parts then keep them aside.

Ive done a t3 t4 on my f22a1 and I'm running 12 psi 247 whp on pump gas and yes it is a solid motor....But building it? I would say save and do a swap Sometimes I regret the 190 stock hp out of h22 I just had to work harder for it....LOL Then watch tehm in my rear view.

for the money u spend on a swap, u can have a faster car with a boosted f22, people doubt the motor, but the long stroke, low compression characteristics make it a nice motor on the street, most of the boosted dyno graphs if not all from turbo f22's put out more torque than horsepower, which is not common at all amongst honda motors
if i were to keep my 4th gen, i'd fully build a f22 and swap out my h23 for it
I think the h23 and f22 have the same rods. You know how much rods cost? Your looking at 400-800$ just to upgrade rods. For the price of building the motor you can have a h22. Also keep this in mind, you can always build the bottom end, then swap a vtec head later. Once the bottom end is built you can rev it to 8k.
Remember the swap is 1200$+ 250 for ecu.
With f22, you have a smaller water pipe, so less coolant flow, so that means you may have a hotter engine. Personally, i think, if you put the $$ into the bottom end, you can always have a beefy hybrid later.

People knock it b/c it is foreign to them.. the F22 is an EXCELLENT motor for turbo.. just go on www.homemadeturbo.com and ask around and search.. alot of the accord guys are on there and piece together their own turbo kits.. thats the way to go..
