Won't Start?

Hey guys, so I took my car to work this morning. Ran great. Came out from work to come home, and it won't start. It cranks over, but no catch. Weirdest thing = When I try to turn it over, the "Brake" light come on on the dash. Does anyone have ANY idea what's up with this?

The motor is a JDM H22A in a 92 Si.

Nobody has ANY suggestions? At all? This motor is a fairly new one from hmotorsonline, and the guy that did the install is awesome. It has been running great for months, no issues AT ALL. Someone give me somewhere to start?

Is it getting fuel? After a bit.of cranking you should be able to smell it in the exhaust.

Pull a plug, are you getting spark? If not it could be a bad cap, rotor, coil or plugs.

Hows the compression?

(Those are the basic 3... wont start for sure if you're missing one of those)

Check for spark as rjr1622.
Pull the plug off the spark plug, and hold it against the top of the valve cover while having someone turn the car over. You'll see the spark jump from the wire to the cover. Repeat on the other 3 cylinders.

Check your plugs.
If they are old, you can take a piece of sand paper and simply sand off any build up from the bottom of the plug.
I have a spark plug sand blaster that works awesome.. It was a very wise investment for me.

Check for fuel. I've never tried smelling the exhaust.
I simply pulled the hose off the rail coming for the fuel filter, placed it in a cup while having someone turn the key on and pressing the gas.
On a side note, installing an inline fuel gauge would eliminate any question of that quickly from a glance.

After that I would check for compression, but if it ran fine and just wouldn't start back up a day later or so.. one of the other 3 is mostly likely your problem.

GL!

It could be your main relay bro. Is ur fuel pump.turning on? The same thing happened to my car. Ur main relay is under ur steering column. It's a box with wires running to it. It took me a while to find it but its basically hanging from ur dash. Dnt take the whole box out. Jus get a screw driver n pry out the sides then take it out. It'll have a circuit board. In the back look at the solder. If there's any cracks in the solders. That means its not letting the current pass through. Thiz happens because with hot and cold weather, the circuit bords shrinks and expands. N with time it causes the solders to get loose n crack. So solder of get then soldered then hook it back up n u should b okay.

I would do as the others above me say, but I am going to put my bet on the main relay. It sounds like the same thing that happened to me. If you are getting spark and getting fuel, it is most likely the main relay. Next time you go to start your car and the problem happens, flick the main relay hard with your fingers and try starting the car again. If it starts up after doing that, you know what your problem is. Good luck!
