Winter driving...

In a few months my prelude is going to see the winter weather. I was just wondering if you guys could give me some tips for winter driving. If I could, I would 'park' my prelude all winter but it's my only means of transportation. I really don't want to get in a wreck because that would just really suck. Especially since this is a 4th gen VTEC...a more rare model. So yes, if you guys that have drivin your cars in the winter could give me some helpful information about winter driving, that would be great! Thanks.

I had mine in Colorado Springs snow for two seasons, and it really wasn't too bad at all. I never even got close to wrecking it. You just have to play it safe while driving in snow. Don't race around, downshift instead of braking hard, and you should be fine. Wash the salt off regularly, b/c that stuff will trash your car, inside and out.

Hey thanks man! When washing the salt off, do I just take a hose and spray it down or what?

Just wash it off like you normally would when you wash your car. I was always paranoid, washing it weekly, rain, snow, sleet, or sun. I definately helps in the preservation process, b/c salt SUCKS.

you on all-season tires? Have those at least with some skinny tires. The nice thing on the ludes is the ABS so make sure that's working properly and braking shouldn't be too bad. The best is with no ABS on ice, man that can be so crazy because you have to keep telling yourself not to slam on the brakes. As Slick said, don't make rapid speed changes either through braking or accelerating especially if you're on a snow-covered road. I suggest going to an empty parking lot that is snow covered and fool around and get used to how the car handles.

Spend $500 on a winter beater, garage the lude and put it on storage insurance. Get the min amount on the beater and you'll most likely end up saving money by the end of the year.

BTW: 89-91 Civic Wagon came in AWD Thats what im looking for.

Leave huge amounts of space in front of you. Don't even think about tailgating. I always leave around twice as much room in front of me than usual. Brake early and lightly. The worst danger to you is someone rearending you. The other is someone T-boning you but you can't do much to avoid that one. Someone else mentioned downshifting, I would be careful with that because when you downshift, the person behind you has no warning that you are slowing down. At least flash your brakelights before you downshift.

Just BFGoodrich tires. I'm not sure what kind. They just came with the car.

I used BF Goodrich's, Kumho Ecsta Supras, and Falken Ziex's, and I did fine, both on my 17's and my stocks.

You can't beat a rear wheel drive beater truck. That **** is fun. I drove a Chevy truck for 8 winters and never got stuck.
