You can reuse the windshield, but I would suggest having a professional glass company take out the windshields because they have the equipment to take them out properly and the sealant to seal the new one properly. You would probably break the glass if you tried it yourself

I dont know about NJ but in calgary they have glass repair places that show up on site with a truck and do it right in your driveway. You should look into something like that for sure, but I really would advise against doing it yourself especially for sealing it.

yea its possible im sure, but DONT try it yourself
my car got a new windshield like 1.5 years ago and the lady said she had to take it to 3 different shops till they finally sealed it correctly, and even now there is still some black goop residue left over from when the 1st guy F-ed it up.

ok, i did the windsheild in my car my self.
well i had help from a friend. We went out and bought a package of bass guitar string. But i was told piano wire works even better. You have to wait until a hot sunny day so that the goup on the wnidsheild is real sticky and loose. or you can use a heat lamp. Then stab a hole in the goup with a knife and feed the piano wire through. Have two people with thick gloves one on the inside and one on the outside of the car, seesawing the piano or guitar wire back and fourth all the way around the perimiter of the windeild. Then pop it out. VERY GENTLY. i layed some plastic down in my good car, and taped it so glass wouldn't go everywhere. BE SURE TO COVER ALL VENTS! you don't want glass flying in your eys when the ac kicks on. Then smash the windheild in the good car, and rip it out peice by peice. shop vac and a sledge hammer baby! make sure all the surfaces are clean, and scrape olf goup off with a razor.

now comes the fun part. Run up to autozone and get a winsheild seal. it is just a roll of black goup that is about 20 feet long. Lay it down all the way around the inside where the windsheild will touch. It looks like a half inch thick sqare. like a charleston chew! set the winsheild down on thereand press it in firmly. la a sheet of plastic over it and let it sit out in the sun for a day. every chance you get, go press on it more and more. jsut to make sure it's snug. Then take some liquid sealant and goe around all the edges inside and out. put the trim back on and you are done.

or pay a shop 200 bucks and save your self the trouble. don't cry when you brake the glass either. you have to be damn patient to do this.

Why wouldnt you just seesaw out the old windshield ??

When my old car got broken into I was pulling glass out for a year ... no way i'd want to risk that again.

In some states, the insurance company is responsible for replacing your windshield if it has a crack, regardless if it was your fault or someone else's. Im sure it has to do with highway safety. Something to look into so that maybe you can have them pay for it... I know they are required to do so in my state.
