Will a Type-S motor fit..

A 92 Prelude? What kind of modification would be needed to make this fit?

What's up man?

It would fit, but...

Type S motors are very expensive, and only have a couple more hp than normal H22s. With the extra money you could get some cams and upgrade the valvetrain to get better performance. Type S motors are also OBDII I think.

THE MOTOR will bolt right in, yes. BUT. . .the Type-S engine in OBD II, so youd have a ***** of a wiring job. It also has ATTS; not to sure, but you may need to get a non-HTTS tranny. I was quoted $5000 for a complete Type-S swap. A normal H22 runs about $2300. A normal H22 with $2700 of bolt ons and headwork will get you a lot more power than the $5000 type S

hmmm

I did alot of research on getting a type S, not such a bad idea i still think. I was looking at 3500$ for the engine, computer and LSD transmission. Everyone tries to say that you cannot get LSD with type S and im not going to argue this. The S spec has the option for LSD so maby there is an option for LSD. If you were like me with a F22 then getting a h22 then cams and all the headwork + LSD would come out to way more that 5000

For the price tag i was looking at after install about 5000$
The only other way your going to get much more power is by adding FI to you current engine. I was looking at 3500$ for a turbo running 9psi on stock internals at about 220hp at the wheels which is alot more than 220 at the flywheel with type S. So if you want to do an engine swap i would presonally go with the type S/S spec, but for power a turbo or Sc is much more effecient.

But still im not one of the Xperts here, so ask around and find out the facts for yourself.

I'm not worried about the price as much as the installation problems that I might run into. I might just go ahead and try it out. Has anyone on here done it yet?? Thanks everyone very much for the help, I appreciate it!

JP - How have you been doing? Did you ever get the wheel lock problem straitened out?

Just out of curiosity, I wrote JDMhondaparts an email, this was the reply:
the price is $5000 for a 00 type s changeover it incls complete atts w/ lsd + s&h.we have them in stock please contact me if interested"
I talked to a guy in Malasia once, he said he had a forth gen Type-S. Apparently, it came from the factory like that. Never actually saw the car though. And, since he was in MALASIA, there might have been a little communication gap. Good luck, and if you need help with the project, I'm in the area. Make sure you give me a ride if you get it sorted!

Nope. McGard won't budge unless I have a registration card.

How'd you get a Prelude?

I've turned my room upside down looking for the registration card, I will keep looking though. It has to be somewhere..

I got a Prelude this past weekend. My friend had one, threw a rod so he sold it cheap. It was pretty highly modded, so I couldnt pass up the offer. All I have to do is throw in a motor and I have a show winner I'm changing everything out though.

One problem that you are going to have (aside from the Atts issue if you go TypeS) is that no one seems to know of any way to visually identify an S-spec engine. You could easily be scammed into paying $5000 for an "S-spec H22a" and get shipped a $2500 "regular H22a", and be none the wiser...

And also, the 4th gen had no S-spec or TypeS variant abroad.

Thanks for looking Chris. It's no big deal.

Andrew brings up a good point. Someone could get an H22, throw a different valve cover (whatever color that may be) and call it an "S".

Don't japanese H22s only have "H22A" stamped on the block? Whereas USDM motors are either "H22A1" or "H22A4"?

That's correct. All JDM H22a's have a block stamp of "H22A" regardless of year or power output rating...

What? I helped install a GSR (B18C1) motor into a CX hatch this summer. The engine swap (with JDM headers) was $3300, not $5000! The JDM B18C5 engine (ITR) costs about 5K though.

It was in the bay area and i know their prices are high... but i also know that the going rate for a full swap from start to finish they were getting 5k... part of why so many ppl are now leaving the bay area like i did... when the bottom fell out of the tech market a lot of ppl couldnt afford to be there anymore...

in fact the news did a survey and it was shown that to be able to afford housing (rental) you had to make $30+/hr in 3 different cities including san jose and san francisco
