Have you ever noticed how poorly used 4th Gens resale for? Why is it that most 4th Gens, even those in IMMACULATE condition w/ anywhere from 50-90k miles(or obviously more miles) resale for less than most used 92-95 Civics? This is discouraging... pretty sad, actually. Even modded 4th Gens, done very cleanly, yield sh!tty resale amounts. What gives??? Anybody have any reasons?

Originally posted by prelude2005 honestly, I wish I new the whole reason...but here in dallas, most people are like wow, ill give you 10k for your car...
Not that I plan on dumping the Lude, but if I could get like 10-12k for my ride, I'd probably sell it/trade it in for a Silverstone Grey S2K or an STI. I'm feeling the need for something a lil' peppier these days, ever since I drove my friend's WRX. I know, I know, WRX's are ugly, but they have SERIOUS potential for a 4 banger, w/ minimal cash investment, eh?

Due to debt, I have to part w/ my turbo parts. Perhaps in a year, I might go for the F-Max kit, which seems pretty safe, given that most 4th & 5th gens reject boosting pretty badly, even w/ complete build-ups. I do want to realize my dream of boosting in the Lude, but as the days roll by, more and more Ludes are blowing up, and more Luders are losing hope in the Ludes boost potential (my feelings after months, and years of researching the FI subject w/respect to the last 2 gens of ludes). The Lude is on a modding hold for a while, I guess, but I'm still disturbed by the poor resale value...GRRRR

I've never seen a stock civic being sold for anywhere near the price of a Prelude. Most civics from my year (93) are selling at half the price of what Preludes usually go for.
it's because the prelude is a 'cult' car. there's a small group of people who absolutely love the car, and that's it.
civics have high resale values because everyone wants one, because that's what all their friends tell them to get. it's like a disease, it keeps spreading.
also, I think the resale value for ludes has a lot to do with location. there are more prelude-type drivers in the big cities and therefore a higher demand in those areas. around here (DC area) I had trouble finding a 92 si for under 7k 2 years ago.
Ya, In Boise even though pretty small city Ludes are not even less than $6000. On Ebay where I purchased my lude I payed $4300 for a si with 136,000. I was like a 3yr Old on christmas when I picked it up in S.F.
I'm not sure about the states but up here in Canada, preludes hold their value extremely well. If I were to sell my car right now I'm almost positive I would get $15000 Canadian dollars. It is impossible to get a 4th gen prelude for less than $10000cdn.
I too have recently been thinking of selling the lude for a something better. I'm graduating this april and driving an S2000 or WRX would really be nice, but I don't think I'd be able to part with my lude. It's a car that I've lived with for over 4 years and have seen myself build it up from stock. I've put in countless hours of researching parts and finding rare components for my car. I have a goal to finish my prelude and keep it for a real long while. Hopefully withing the next 2 years I'll finish it off with a nice turbo system!

Compare the prices of Ludes sold on e-bay & autotrader.com w/ 92-95 Civics... they are just about even, most of the time. The value of 4th Gens is pretty pathetic, compared to most 92-95 civics... there is no explanation why. I feel like our cars are cheapened by this poor ability to hold their value. Check it out for yourself. I've been shopping around, all over the country, heavily for 92-95 Civic hatches, and they all seem to run anywhere from 4G's or more. All 4th Gen Ludes seem to run anywhere from 3500 to 8 or 9G's... that's inexcusable.

That is so true. 4th gen preludes are demand high prices in Canada.
I could sell my 96 with a plain engine for $12000US easily with over 100,000 miles...
I paid $11k for my 93 VTEC four years ago. I probably could sell it for $5-6k realistically. $1,250-1,500 a year is pretty good depreciation if you ask me. Based on dealer prices the 5G's appear to be holding their value quite well.

Should I ever have to, what would stop me from selling my US 4th Gen in Canada? It probably wouldn't pull as much, b/c it doesn't have the seat warmers, and other JDM/CDM features, but 12G's is outstanding. I could let it go for that... and put a down payment on an STI, hehe. But I won't be doing that anytime soon...just a thought.

You're just jealous, hahaha. Why the WRX hatred?
Can't beat it, for the money. And have you ever driven one?? They're QUICK.

There is an explanation- it's called a motor swap. B16, B18, whatever, the hatches are light and the swaps aren't difficult, and most of the time, not that expensive, especially if you have a hook up or know where to look. I've been trying to find an EG hatch, Si model FOREVER, and it's just not happening. I bought a CRX Si instead.
EG hatch are one of the most hardest cars to find, well for a good price, every time i see a stock red EG hatchs driven by a old person, i wanna chase them down and ask to buy it...

Not sure about autotrader but go to cars.com, which is good for my part of the country and type in civics. Most 92-95 civics go for around $3000, a very mint version can be up to $5000, maybe. Then try ludes. SI or VTECs usually start at at least $6500 and go up quickly.
I dunno, maybe it's something to do with where you live.

I've seen Si EG hatches all the time on autotrader.com.
I too am looking for a cheap 95 hatch.
