This is my question. I'm now thinking of just selling my lude and getting something nice and new and stock and leaving it that way for a while. You know, the more I look at it, the more problems I see. Right after I got the car, what happens, the timing belt goes, and so do all 8 of my exhaust valves. Got that fixed. Then the radiator goes. Got that fixed. Since the car is lowered, the shocks went, got that fixed. I mean, I'm not complaining about any of this. Wear and tear, etc, I know the story. But, it seems like one thing after another is going bad. The shock knock has turned into a constant creak under load, even just going from a stop. I can't find the connector for my JDM fogs after 2 days of tearing the **** apart. I got JDM black housing headlights, but haven't had a chance to put em in. It seems like every board I go to for help, I get the same response: "You should get a Helms" or no response. Oh yeah, my antenna's come off the track, so I get that clunking sound when I turn on the radio - one more thing to fix. I'd like to get a new box for my sub...something that'll fit. But again, why bother?
Anyways, mine is a 92 SI...a couple of mods...
Custom orange-bronze paint, intake, exhaust, coilovers, new struts. I'd switch back to stock rims and deck. Brakes, radiator, TB/WP done 5k miles ago, all maintenance on point, still runs like a horse. Car is paid off and title is mine. Anyone have an idea of what I could throw this out for?
Sorry for the long rant...I just don't know if I want to do this anymore.

You said it all right here. You've done all the major service to the car, and you have no payments on the car. I sometimes think the same thing but then reality sets in. I have no payments on the car and if I buy something else, I'll need a down payment and then have a monthly payment for at least 4 years.
It's not worth it, keep it and fix the things that may go wrong in the future. The money you spend on future repairs will be significantly less than having a monthly payment.
Of course this is my opinion and I can't influence you if your mind is made up. It's just heart breaking seeing everyone here sell their Preludes (especially 4th gens). Lude Conduct has a great car and he is selling his, then Prelude2005 is considering selling his car - what a mistake.
Like I said, I go through the same thought process as you sometimes and I do advertise selling it. However, I know that it will not sell for my asking price and I will not go below that price. I'll probably have her the rest of my life with no regrets.
Then don't.
Maybe the problem is the car is bad luck for you? Most people here look on routine maintenance as a labor of love. You don't give up just because of little struggles. But you sound like you've had too many problems that have built up. Maybe it is time for you to move on. But then you're just going to have to start all over, because the bug never really leaves you. Hopefully next time you can find a car you enjoy enough that the problems don't bother you so much.
And getting a Helms really isn't all that big of a deal. It is a good thing to have, even if you don't use it all that much.
you probably get the response "get a helms" becasuse people get tired of answering questions that are plainly explained in the book. They really are useful.
Your car is 10 years old. a couple of things probably will go wrong now and then. My attitude is to upgrade the part that's broken.
I think all of our antennas are trash. If you pull it apart, you will find a gear that is stripped. Spin it 90 degrees and voila!
I dont know how JDM fogs wire up, but it cant be all that difficult. Cut the connector off and splice into the appropriate wires.
Learn from your mistakes. Before you even attempt to install your JDM headlights, talk to those who have done it. Find out exactly what you need.
Damn my antenna does that too! Are you sure its your shocks that are making that creaking noise? My car has been doing that for awhile. I've replaced the control arms thinking it was a ball joint now i'm trying the strut rod bushings. If this dosent make it stop I'm going to get springs and shocks...I wanted to do this later this year because I'm still trying to pay off the H22 but I cant stand the creak! I know I'm of the topic but let me know what you think.

i know it's probably just the frustration talking. i have no problem with the routine maintenance...i usually just do it while i'm at work anyways and yes i know the car is 10 years old and things break and fall apart...it just seems like it's all happening at once! and over the past week, it's like one thing after another after another and then it's like **** it, it's more trouble than it's worth. it just seems like the one time i actually ask people or someone for help (whether it be here or at work or other people), nobody bothers to offer a hand and that gets frustrating as well.
oh and 92sigrl yeah my antenna just started doing it last night. it bugs the living **** outta me. and the creak - i don't even know. it's definately worse in this cold weather (last night was all of 15 degrees - i wouldn't even be driving it right now if my junk car at least had heat - when you have frost on the INSIDE of your window that's pretty bad).
oh and i've ordered a helms - they told me it'll be 3-4 weeks before the even print it. then they gotta mail it out. seems like nothing's going my way.
i love my lude and am probably just going through a phase...but it just feels like it's too much - money mostly, but time, etc also. it seems like as soon as i fix one thing, something else breaks...i guess and hope i'll just get over it. thanks for listening again

Just to let you know, I don't think your antenna is broken. When it is cold out the antenna is prone to getting stuck. My antenna used to get stuck and I could here the loud clunking in very cold weather. When it gets stuck about half way or whatever, pull it the rest of the way and clean it with WD-40. I simply started spraying a little WD-40 on the antenna an that took car of the problem. It's amazing how much dirt the antenna collects while driving. Clean it every so often and that should take care of the problem.
i don't know if you're talking about the rattling rear deck (speakers, too much boom boom) or the rattling from the windows. if it's from those little wedge rear windows, from what my friend told me, it's just the molding - you should be able to pick up a whole new set at a honda dealership (of course seeing as how they don't even make/carry 4th gen floormats anymore, i don't know how these would be there). Also, i need to repaint misc. black things on the exterior (door molding above the door - that black metal piece, windshield wipers, etc etc - they've had the paint flake off and stuff due to time...that's another thing that bugs me, but at least that one's an easy fix).

damn, i'm gonna try that at work tonight...hopefully that'll fix it...thanks for the advice
No problem. Lube it very well since it probably hasn't been done since it was new.
Spray WD-40 on your rag and go up and down the antenna a few times and you will see all the dirt that comes off it. Do that a few times until the dirt isn't visible on the rag. Finally, lube the joints of the antenna very well and that should do it. Turn the radio on and off a few times so the oil soaks in the antenna everytime it goes up and down.
I used to carry a small can of WD-40 in the trunk in the winter time so when it started to clunk in cold weather I was prepared.

I spent half an hour searching through my helms for your fog light switch connector and then posted a scan of the page for you, you don't consider that lending a hand? you know, I could use some factory fogs too... why don't you sell me yours if you're not gonna install em?

I just got floor mats from the dealer...they still have them here!

Roger, Dodger! Every dealership I've gone to, they've had them, or can get them. They're also very easy to find on e-bay...

hey another thing to try with the WD40 is steel wool. until i finally disconnected my antenna, i steel wooled and WD'd the heck out of it every so often. it was the only thing that worked for mine until i gave up on it.....
good luck! and by the way, 92si, u replaced the control arms b/c of a ball joint?
I took out my antenna and antenna motor. I replaced it with a short, fixed, black antenna from O'Reillys. It looks much better, its lighter, and doesn't make any noise!

oh damn my fault...i've been looking through so many different things in different places that it slipped my mind. yes, you were the one who proved to me that i'm not crazy and that it does exist and i appreciate it. my bad completely. haha oh yeah i STILL can't find it after searching for another 2 hours. i think i'm gonna have no choice but to either take the whole damn dash out or just chase the wires from the foglight harness and make my own switch. maybe it's just the honda dealer i go through. he told me a while ago when i asked that they don't have any and honda doesn't even make them anymore. seemed kinda off to me, since the last 4th gen was 96 - seems they would still have things like floormats around. btw, we had a 96 si in our shop the other day - i like that cluster! it has that whole magnified look thing going on. nice and bright too...and a digital odometer! made mine look ancient
another thing one of the guys told me at work was to use brake cleaner (believe it or not) cause it's a little thicker than wd40. it wasn't doing it yesterday, but then again, it was like 30 degrees out...
