Who would win? h22 tranny? h23 tranny?

Ok im doin the h22 usdm swap into my Si Lude... So i have the h23 tranny. My buddy just got a vtec lude, so it has the h22 tranny. I know theres differenes in topend vs low end power with each tranny. But lets say we raced off the line... maybe quater mile or so... who would win?

No, the H23 has longer gears than the H22 to take advantage of the H23's lowend "torque". The H22 trans is geared to keep the engine in the higher rpms where it makes its power.

Since fact is, engines are the same, You have longer gears, you will lose.

They aren't that much different, I think good driver with H23 tranny should be able to keep it damn close, now the F22 tranny, that's a worthless set of gears, although, it might be nice to have an F22 5th gear.

Yeah, but if you put that same good driver in the car with the VTEC tranny, he'll be faster yet. Everytime we compare like this, don't forget that when you talk about "well, a really good driver could take him" that the driver of the other car, or the faster car, is a complete doof.

First of all I would say it shouldn't be a determinign factor at all in a race. Way too many other variables that would effect it more. I think all other things being equal the car with the h23 tranny would have the edge. If you look at the torque curve of a h23 and actually took the time to try to caclulate everything out, I think you would just be shifting more often than you need to with a h22 tranny. Its not like a h23 has a large power drop off at 5k or anything.

But that's the transmission suited for the torque curve of the engine it's mated to (H23) I think, in the end, the best match for the VTEC engine is the transmission matched to it, not the 23 transmission.

I would say the H22 LSD, just because of LSD alone.

yes, it depends on what your conditions are like and what you want.

H23= lower rpm cruising/better gas milage (not much albiet)
H22=better acceleration, higher revs cruising

I think VTEC tranny = M2S4 and H23 tranny = M2F4. Or the other way around Correct me if I'm wrong.

you know what I would like to try... installing the 6spd gear set from the CL Type S into a customized Prelude case...

That would be sweet.

It would be sweet to have a good highway gear for sure..

anybody have a guess on what mileage would be going to H22 tranny vs. H23 tranny on the same engine? .. like would it even register an MPG or would it be a couple / 3 of them?
