Where is the computer hook up?

I got a check engine light today, and I went to Autozone to see what's the code said. Well, the guy couldn't find the plug to hook up the computer to. I drive a 96, so it's OBDII any idea where it is??? thanks!!

He is talking about the dataport for the OBD-II datachecker.

I know on my moms old '96 accord it was behind the ashtray. I am not sure where it is on the ludes. I think it has been discussed before. Try a search.

Hey man don't go by what Autozone says is wrong with your car. They can just pull a few codes and maybe get the part that went bad. But if something else caused that certain part to fail, it will just do it again. Basically you only have about a 5% chance to get it fixed the first time. Your best be is just take it to a mechanic pay the $50 or whatever they charge to read it and tell you what is wrong with it, and do it yourself or just let them fix it. I work at a NAPA store as a salesman so I go around to the local mechanics and talk to them. I have heard several cases of people bringing in parts that autozone sold them telling them what was wrong with the car and it not fixing the problem. Alot of times the mechanics already know the part they got is not the problem without even scanning it. Take it to a mechanic pay upfront and get it fixed right. Instead of going through a bunch of hassle, replacing parts you don't need and probably spending more in the end.

i recently did the coolant by pass mod, and it's throwing codes, just want to know what it is i guess. not really buying stuff. i pulled the vaccum line for the butterfly valve so now all 8 will open at all time. ..... 0_o when i plug everything back..there won't be a code. today i was driving, all of a sudden the CEL pop on, and i can feel my car jumping foward when i step on gas, don't get me wrong, it's not a good jump, i just tap the gas, and the car will hop out a bit and it'll be smooth again 0_o wonder why.

For OBD-II there should be a hook-up somewere around the dash. If you have a Palm handlheld computer you can buy OBD-II sanning software.

they make a nice one.
