It is recommended that you do it at 90,000 miles or every six years, whichever comes first. Even though you may not drive the car many miles that doesn't prevent the belts from dry rot.
I'm with U.K. try to have it done at 75,000 miles the latest if you want piece of mind and to save yourself money. If your belt snaps while driving you are going to have a hefty valve train repair.

Alan's just broke. His car is sitting in his driveway, dead. Bent valves. I'm changing mine at 120,000 since the first belt was replaced at about 60,000.

Yes, I am the posterboy for broken timing belts.
I think the previous owner got it done at 90k. My car was at 182k when the belt went bye bye.

Ha! The dealer is saying that so he can make some extra cash sooner. Who's going to say come back in a year so I can replace your timing belt? They want your money NOW! Save yourself the money and buy something else for now.
I was told by my Honda Dealer to get it done @ 60,000 MILES or 90,000 KILOMETERS. My mate has a JDM Import and his was changed at 60,000 as well. My two belts were £30 ($45 each) and £25 ($34ish) fitted.
In Canada because of the hot summers and cold winters it is considered 'extreme' driving conditions which means everything should be changed earlier.... ie: the timing belt should be changed at 100,000 Km (60,000 milies.)

The guy that told me wasn't just after money.....I have known him for a pretty good while and just asked his opinion....my car is only around 53k right now anyway.....but I put miles on it pretty quick so in about 4 months it will be close to 60k
If you notice the owner's manual, the big factor on the timing belt is TEMPERATURE. Do you drive in extreme heat or cold? If so, then 60 instead of 90.
Originally posted by cantdrive55 I don't care what anyone says, I'd rather do the belt a bit early than chance it breaking, bending valves etc.
I agree...but that is kinda my question....early for 60k...like at 55k....or early for 90k like at 80k? or you think just split the difference and do around 75?
