Wheel Bearing/Hub Questions

Hey all,

I started getting a loud noise rubbing/humming when I hit about 30 or 40 from the left rear last week . I think I have traced it down to the wheel bearing. I jacked up the car and the left rear tire has alot of wiggle room back and forth when I try to move it, unlike the right rear. The noise also disappears when I turn, I think relieving the pressure on the bearing?

So my questions....Do this sound like the correct diagnosis?

Can I replace only one wheel bearing? or should I replace both rear bearings?

Anyone have any advice on where to get the parts from? My plan is just Autozone or Advanced auto parts or something right now

Thanks! Nick

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me. Does the sound disappear when you turn left and get louder when you turn right? I usually only change the bearing that is bad. I got mine from Napa.

Yeah, think it is the other way around though, turning right it goes away, going left the noise deepens or get louder....i'll have to double check. I jacked up both rear wheels last night and the left moves all around, and the right is solid, so im pretty sure its the left one. Thanks for the reply, just wasn't sure if only changing one bearing would throw anything off.

When you say left rear, do you mean driver side or passenger side?

The rear wheel bearing is an entire bolt on assembly. So it's somewhat easy to change, unfortunately they are also expensive. From my NAPA store it's around $150 over the counter.

By left side I mean driver side.

I found this at advanced auto parts for $97:

See anything wrong with this? I'm looking at NAPAs too, not sure why it is so much more...just brand maybe?

The hub and bearing are one piece for the rears. As long as what you get looks like the below, you should be golden. Obviously, the one pictured is for a 5th gen, but you get the idea.
