what's up with my roof "molding"

does anyone else have a problem with the piece of trim or molding that runs down each side of the roof from front to back between the sunroof and the door? both of my pieces are coming loose and the clearcoat is peeling. how easy is it to replace these pieces? do they just "pop" up? it is the only noticable flaw on my car (besides the bubble gum string down the door that i haven't waxed off yet). also whats an easy way to fill the holes left by my front emblem? i don't really want to take it to the body shop unless i have to.

i guess its a seal part. its that piece between the sunroof and the door. i just removed mine last night. there are no holes. it has three pegs that the clips inside the trim piece clip on. the only thing is when the trim is removed it looks like the grand canyon. i am just going to buy new pieces and install them.

They can't be there for nothing, Honda used to (or still does) put them on virtually all of their cars, and if they were useless, they wouldn't have put them on at all.

i agree with that, they have to have some purpose. thats why i am going to just get new ones instead. they are only about 20 bucks or so a piece from honda. it would take alot of crap to fill them in.

dont they serve the same purpose as rain gutters?

i mean the water that hits the front of the car, goes to the top of the car, then has to be channeled to the back somehow. look at the design of the hood - aerodynamics maybe?

all i could think of is maybe honda had a option for a ski rack that fit over there or something with the right pieces lol. i guess i would say for a gutter and aerodynamics aswell.

Yea the clear plastic cover on mine is coming off too.

See if www.hondaautomotiveparts.com has them under their parts section for replacements. I wonder what that costs.

Mine didn't come off but the ends turned black (I guess dust accumulated for 12 years ), so I replaced those. I bought those from hondaautomotiveparts.com and they are #7 and #8 as mentioned on Tannie's link.

One WARNING!!!! When I got mine, one of the molding was bent because they didn't put any padding when they shipped. Just put them in a skinny long plastic bag. I had to send one back but they refused to replace, instead they refunded me. The guy I talked to told me that the molding wasn't supposed to be shipped, but I though it's BS. Every item they sell should be shippable since they sell on internet. If you order from them, I'd suggest to call and remind them to pack them so that they don't get bent.

What I ended up doing was taking the print out of that page from hondaautomotiveparts.com to a local dealer and have them matched the price.

the color is different on that link because he put in a 96 prelude. In 96 they changed the black from granada to flamenco. Just choose an earler year and they'll have granada.

I don't know where you live, but there are 3 Honda dealers close to where I live. I asked 2 of them to price match and one of them did.

Even Pepboys near my work can match the internet price on an Optima battery.

try manhonda.com for honda parts and talk to john. they are great with service and great with prices aswell. they shipped me this long skinny part (the fender lining part of the rear fender) in a long sturdy box, not in a piece of plastic. and if you do buy from them, tell him ronny referred you if you can.

i have no problems getting advance auto parts to price match. (we don't have a pepboys) there are 2 honda dealers within an hour of me, the closest one has a old prick that didn't even want to give me a refund on a part i bought the day before that didn't fit. im not sure about how the other one is.

When I took my car to get painted, the body shop stripped them and painted them flat black

$70 for each part? That seems awful high. Can't a body shop paint them for less than $140? I've got this same problem and have been trying to figure out what to do about it. The clearcoat on my roof is separating from the paint too, might just have to get the whole damn roof repainted.

yea, just get a body shop to deal with that s hit, let them repaint it. it does seem really high for $70 a piece. not only that, youll have to pay a bodyshop to paint it. just take the old ones you have and take it to a body shop.

well another thing i might add is that there are three clips on each side. well i only have 3 total that are still functional. i can't find them on majestic by themselves. so i might as well just buy new ones.
