Kind of a stupid question, but whenever I am really low on gas and on my way to the station I try keeping it in fifth gear for as long as I possibly can even when I am coming to a stop. I was wondering what the slowest you guys have gone in 5th without stalling.
Well if your RPMs are too low your engine will actually burn more gas, each engine is designed to run optimal at a certain RPM and running too low will not only cause bad performance but all bad gas mileage...

Yeah I don't think your conserving any gas that way. Your doing the opposite. I usually coast in neutral when i'm really really low.

Do you own a multi-speed bicycle? Think of trying to start riding your bike on the highest speed from a stop. It's very difficult; you should drop to the lower gears to start, right? All that energy you're expending is similar to the amount of gas consumption you'll experience by letting your car go 21mph in fifth.
what im saying is I never accelerate in 5th . say im going 40mph in 3rd, ill putt it in 5th and not have to give it any gas. Obviously accelerating in 5th at a low speed would be pointless, mainly I mean i am coasting, touching the gas very rarely.

You said you keep it in 5th when coming to a stop though. Neutral is fine for coming to a stop because you engine is only using the amount of gas it takes to idle. I think I have got down to about 10mph in 5th.
Sorry bout for all the confusion, i didnt mean to sound like a complete idiot... it was a good nite followed by a rough morning. Anyway, I meant to just ask a simple question of how slow have you gone in 5th before having to downshift so you wouldnt stall out.
