I found a stock 95 vtec with 78000 miles on it...its the blue/green color..the guy that owns it is a fairly older guy and is the second owner...the car is in excellent condition inside and out with a few ding here and there which is to be expected...has 2 sets of wheels one for winter and one for any other season...Never been in an accident garage kept...the only thing is he hasnt had the timing belt, water pump or hoses changed yet and said the brake probably would need replaced in the near future..his asking price is 10,900..kbb price for retail is 9,300 and for prive party is like 7,900... he told me he got his price by taking what would be the dealer price 11,900 and subtracting 1000 dollars from it.
thanks guys

so where is he getting this "dealer" number, he's not a car dealer. offer him the private party value from kbb, or average out the private party values from the big 3 books.. but definitely buy the car. I'd probably go as high as 9k since they're rare and it's probably the best model prelude ever made.
but on the other hand it easily has anoter 100,000 miles to offer and is the BEST model of 4th gen out there! So, you have to ask yourself whats it worth to you.
The way I look at buying a 4th gen is because I'll end up modding it I'm better off with a rolling chassis or a s or si that has a good strait body
The money I save there I feel is better off in aftermarket parts and upgrades.
kbb #'s = very low. the true Kbb #'s are what you would expect to pay at a dealer auction. I would pay around 9500 for a car like that. garage kept w/ low miles is rare. There is a 95 vtec MR for 11,300 w/ 39,900 miles on it. I'd grab it if i had the money.

WAAAY high. He has no business charging a "dealer" price. KBB private party good is the price that he should charge considering how much expensive maintenance is going to be due soon.

I paid $5500 for my 1994 Red Prelude VTEC with 120K interior is flawless but exterior... I give it a 4 out of 10. I didnt really care about the outside. It runs nice , but after tune up runs alot smooth.
I bought my 94 w/ 140k (about) in May for $6500. The interior is about a 9.5/10 (one little rip on the bottom of the back seat) and the exterior is about a 7.5/10 (rock chips on front, mirrors are fadded). The only real problem is that the odom doesn't work.

I could see paying $9k, depending on the leather and how it has held up over the years. When I got my lude, 95 Si (I know its not a vtec..., last year I paid $10k for it, calm down though it had 32k miles on it, it was practially brand new. The passanger seat seriously looked like nobody had ever been in it. I don't even have 45k on it now, on a 95. But I do wish I could have picked up a vtec, I don't think there is anything wrong with 9k.
i dunno, if the car is as clean as you make it sound.... id pay 10 for it, i see 93 and 94 Si with 130k+ in not great shape whatsoever go for 5-6 around here. i never see vtecs around here. and i love the 4th gen more than any other. you'll love the car i promise and thats worth the higher price considering youre getting one hella clean car.
if it was me id say id offer (10k minus all the 80k tune up costs) then do the timing belt and shet yourself.

I would not pay anymore than $8500 for a 95 vtec. I just bought my 98 base in august for $9 flat with 56,000 miles on it. It did have slight cosmetic damage, (passenger door has many dings and scuffed paint), but still.
personally I wouldnt buy it, but I bet you he will get close to his asking price. someone will pay that for that car. it all depends what its worth to you. kbb doesnt exactly have the best method of measuring price. I dont know all the detail but I think it has to do with how old and the mileage compared to the new price. but it doesnt take into account that this car is in high demand.
10,900 for a 95vtec with 78k is not bad. But the miles are getting up their and the belt does Need changing in the somewhat near future. I would try to pay 10k and that's it, tell him you'd give him 10,9 but the belt absolutely Needs changing and is a Huge risk if not. Normally I think he will get 10,9 for the car, but negotiation about the belt you might take it for less.
Well the car is pretty clean...the paint is in real good shape and the interior is real nice...I was able to get the guy down to 9,300 and will be getting the car this weekend
Thanks for the input.
