Most auto parts sell the K&N recharge kits, which you should be able to use on your filter as well, for about 10 bucks.

A liquid that breaks down the old oil and removes the dirt with it as well as new oil to put on the filter.

If money grows on trees in your neighborhood, get an Apexi Power Intake (they cost almost $200). In independent tests it had the best hp improvement with some of the best dirt protection. K&N is not bad and it does a good job at filtering but the apexi is da ****.

Are there any alternatives to buying the proper stuff? Can any conventional chemicals which are easy to get hold of be used?

Are the AEM filters that come with their intakes just a K&N? If not will the recharge kit work with a aem filter? THanks
