I've heard pulleys are a good source of power, but I've also heard that they can be more harm than good in the long run. I haven't searched much on cam gears, but have gathered that skunk 2 is the best.
So which mod would be the best after i/h/e and untuned VAFC? Also, could you tell me a little about pulleys and cam gears? TIA

In fact, I've recently done I/H/E mod too and am wondering what's next. I'd like to install a S-AFC II ('92 Si), but the local shope quoted $350 for AFC, $100 for installation and $175/hr. for the dyno tuning, so I thought it would be quite expensive.
Did you install VAFC yourself? If not, how much did it cost for installation? Where (in the car) was it installed?

Pullies! Just the accessory pullies though, they do no harm to anything, as long as you can live with slightly dimmer headlights. The crank pulley is the one that is rumored to cause engine problems.

Were you referring to underdrive pullies when you said "accessory pullies"? What's the advantage of those pullies? Any gains (average)?

i installed my vafc myself. and I HATE wires! It wasnt hard. You can buy a used one for like 250 or so. I hear pulleys mess up something in the engine bearings or something...sorry if i sound stupid, but i dont remember.

with i/h/e youve pretty much maxed out the potential of your motor... You might get a few more hp with pullies, but probably not worth it. You should look into doing some major work like cams.

To answer your question, since this was the only legitimate post in the second half of the thread, by accessory pullies, yes, I was referring to the power steering and alternator pullies. They're also called underdrive pullies. As the name says, they underdrive the alternator and the p/s. Less revolutions, means less power spent turning them, and they're supposedly lighter than stock, also making them easier to turn. From what I've heard, the underdrive accessory pullies free up around 4HP and about the same amount of torque.

Originally posted by Sir_Nick I have read up to 9HP gain from AEM Pulleys. Guess it depends on the setup.
Did you read that on the AEM website? I find 9hp a bit hard to believe, even if they are referring to flywheel HP. Dr. James dyno'd the pullied IIRC, and they gained about 4whp across the board.
