** What would YOU do? **

Hey guys, I'm trying to decide what I should do with my engine. I keep getting different suggestions and I just can't decide what to do. Currently, I have a '95 Si Auto w/ 68,000 miles.

Should I convert it to manual and then save up for a turbo kit, or just do an H22a swap and later convert it to manual (when I save up to convert to manual)? If I did the H22 swap I would most probably never turbo it, but get i/h/e and the works.

If I decided to do the h22 swap or convert to manual is there anyone in the south texas area (Laredo/San Antonio/Austin) with knowledge/experience on doing this that would be willing to help me out?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why don't you just get the manual H22 swap instead of the automatic one? That will save you time and money. Not that there's anything wrong with an automatic VTEC Prelude......
But if you do decide to go auto H22, then convert to manual later, the engine will probably be in great condition. It probably won't be as ragged out as one with a manual tranny would have been.

Well, if you're set on converting your car to a manual, I would do that before anything else. If you decide to swap the vtec first, you would need to find an AUTO ECU, which I think is pretty rare. I'm too sure about turboing an automatic. I would just get the auto-manual conversion out of the way first then decide between the turbo or H22.

If the car's your daily driver, I would get the H22, just because it's more reliable. Turbo would only end up costing you more than what you planned. IMO, you don't need a super fast daily driver.

You make it sound so easy, though. I wish it was that easy to do it, but it's not as 4th gen VTEC's are very rare.

Not on e-bay. At any given moment, there are a handful of Si's AND VTECs on auction. It's not an uncommon find if you know where to look.

Tell me about it. My car is IMMACULATE, inside and out, and when I had the car booked yesterday, at a Bimmer dealership, they insulted me w/ the price they were offering. I was considering trading the Lude for a 99 M3. I can't believe I did that...

There are loads of VTEC Preludes for sale in the UK. I just did a quick search on Autotrader and found 17 VTECs for sale in a 40 mile radius of where I live. Strange that in such a small country as ours, it's easy to find one for sale.

Isn't VTEC ALL that they have where you live? Or do they have regular, boring ol' Si's, too?

why dont you just keep the Si and keep it automatic and turbo the baby.....there is some guy that did that and if you want your tranny to hold or to last..go to levelten.com and they have stuff that will help you build up the auto tranny to hold the hp that a turbo will put....it will be ok...so you can be different...besides, look at the high hp cars...like craig paisley's supra...its automatic...so keep it build it and slap a turbo....

Except for the fact only 5000 were sold in the US. I bet the cost the swap a h22 is cheaper then he can sell his car and get a vtec for and if he goes JDM he has 10 more hp and a lot newer engine.

I've heard of a few people that accidentily get a auto ecu when they get a jdm h22. Most sites I see that sell jdm h22's sell them with an auto of manual tranny, but since auto is bad don't make the same mistake twice.
