What Should I Do With My New Lude!?

Hey everyone im 18 years old. Just bought my first car. 1992 Prelude 2.2L S Model.

Im already obsessed with the car. The exterior isnt in the best shape. Theres spots on the sunroof so im looking into a 5th gen roof swap .

Anyways i wanna do some stuff to the engine and possibly the exterior aswell.

Anyone have any sugestions for my car? Air intakes? Mufflers Ect?

I dont wanna rice my car out but i do want to make it sound better and get some more HP!

Price is a factor! I have limited funds! So please don't sugest anything insane lol.

first things first, start saving your money. You need to get rid of that 2.2 SOHC motor and invest in an H22. Don't bother adding and intake or exhaust or anything until you get rid of that lawn mower engine.

hmotorsonline has the H22a for $1200 for just the engine by itself. I have an H23a1 and even I wish I hadn't bought the few bolt-ons that I did and just bought the motor as the first investment because you'll drive a vtec car and crave it even more.

sorry for that it sounded like that, but there's no point in trying to add power to a 120hp motor. sounds like you did get a good deal though.

135hp =[

Same difference though. No point. lol

My advice here is to put your money into a savings account. And leave it there.

But assuming you don't care or funds are unlimited to you, if I could do it all over again, suspension would be my first mod. And full coilovers are the ONLY way to go IMO. forget about that nonsense cheap spring/strut setup or sleeves. Go hard or go home. lol

Personally, I would never buy a modified vehicle. But YES definitely cheaper, remember these cars are getting old and there's nothing you can do to increase it's value, I mean without losing money on your end that is.

Hmotors is the only place I recommend buying your motor. tiger, and jdm engine depot, I've heard mixed reviews, it's hit or miss. But get the WHOLE setup, being 1800-2200 with the tranny. You don't want your f22 tranny mated to an h22. I mean yes it'll work. But man are those gears long.

most defitnately. Even a full exhaust won't help you much right now. Change the engine. I think you can wait for the 5th gen. swap, I rather have a faster car than a good looking one. After you get a better engine then u can go into the full exhaust and possibly try to add more torque. Intake: I find that a jackson's cold air intake works nicely well it does where i live.

If you want to do a performance mod first, you have to think of your goals first. You don't want to spend money on i/h/e when you plan on boosting soon. Weekend warrior, dd, track, etc.

I would recommend an intake as it's a universal mod between the h23, h22, and f22. That's if you plan on going N/A. Ebay pipe w/ K&N filter is your cheapest route. You can also just throw a K&N in a JDM Type S intake or stock intake box.

Wow thanks alot everyone. It looks like the majority people are saving get the h22 lol. That would be sweet putting a whole new engine in the 92 lol. Ill take a look online for what i can find. I would have to save up a bit to get that but seems to be the best thing i could do.

I kinda wanted to throw a short ram intake on there haha get some better sound off my "lawn mower engine" haha

its all good ray :P

Noticed in the other thread it's also an Automatic...H22 + 5 speed swap = completely different driving experience.

if anything, just get a cheap ebay intake. That will make the biggest difference - better response and maybe another mpg or so. Keep is stock and clean.

the h22a swap isn't fun but if you do the timing belt, get a cam holder!

Auto and f22 = slow. If you plan to use it as a daily driver then fine but if you want to mod it it's a lost cause. I say sell it and get one that's atleast a 5spd.

+1! I've had an S model (auto, f22a1) since I was 16, I'm 21 now and I've made it look good quite good but talk about slow...
I bought a vtec model with a newer engine and tranny with a beat up body to do an H22 + 5 speed swap into my S model but unless I'm doing all the labor, I'm looking at $3,000 for the labor, not to mention having bought the vtec model for the parts...

Having said that, I'm selling both and looking for either a very clean Vtec model 4th gen or a nice SH 5th gen, unless you have a lot of time and know a lot about cars, you're better off buying one with an H22 and stick shift. Otherwise make your S model sound and look nice, but it's EXTREMELY crummy to hang out and attend car meets and have a great looking car BUT is automatic and making maybe 100whp

Get a short ram. $20.00 for the piping from ebay with a cheap filter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-96-Honda-Prelude-Air-Intake-Kit-Red-NEW-93-94-95-NR_W0QQitemZ200331263780QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_ Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item200331263780& _trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A1171|65%3A12| 39%3A1|240%3A1318

Then slap on a K&N universal 3'' inlet filter. Google it. There's several online shops selling them in many varities for about $40.00. I picked mine up from advance auto for $30.

It'll def. be a little louder since you're getting rid of the air intake resonator. When you turn the car off, it'll go pshhhh swoooosh. haha.

Yep. I'm was bringing them both cars as is.

$1,300 to pull both the F22 and H22 out and then drop the H22 into the F22's place. So an engine swap plus another engine pull.
$200 for auto to manual tensioner conversion. If I'm going through the hastle, might as well get it done now.
$100 for timing belt and water pump

Auto to manual swap, which includes removing the transmission components from my vtec model, and auto components from S model and doing the conversion was quoted at 20-25 hours at $50/hr = $1,000-1,200.
the estimate could go up to 15% especially if things break, etc, or any unforeseeable things need to do be done.

Add tax etc, and was told to set aside about $3K and the swap would take about 2 weeks.

These are all from reputable shops, cheapest quote I got was ~2,000 but they had never done an auto to manual swap. The other 2 were close to the $3K range. Let's face it, unless you're doing the work yourself or find a mechanic to do the side job, most performance shops are going to quote 40 labor hours plus at $50-80/hour.

I know I could save money by removing the engines myself, but with work and school I'm too busy to do that and worry about towing a car, tranny, engine and other parts plus rental of tools etc.
