What mods for a VTEC Sol to beat my Si?

just like the title says.... what mods does a VTEC del Sol have to have to beat my 93 Si with i/h/e. the guy with the del Sol wants to me for $500 after i already beat him a couple times before. he told me he is getting a new tranny and that he is "waiting on some parts". what "parts" should i be looking out for besides nitrous?

im a broke college student that needs money. thats the only reason im even considering this race. what do u guys think i should do? this is kinda getting serious. btw, the race will be at a legal drag strip. its a 1000 ft FYI. i run a 12.5 and his friends "claim" he runs 12.7 stock..... im thinking BS. what would you guys do? the race is this weekend so i gotta make a decision soon here......

later,
tim

I wouldn't race him either. 500 bucks is quite a bit of money. The b16 Del Slow isn't too much slower than us stock for stock. With some bolt ons, it would give a damn good run. By the way, I believe the 12.7 stock.

1000 ft, not 1/4 mile.

yea something's wrong here. 12.5 for a lude Si with i/h/e is unrealistic. Maybe low 15s or high 14s if you can drive very very well.

edit: ic 1000ft ok then. Sounds about right.

Well, I'm sure he was expecting to get 500 back by racing you. If he's THAT confident, I wouldn't even think about it. I'd decline. I would race him for fun though.

do the del sols have good low end? i know our vtecs dont have a lot of low end so a race in the 1000 ft might be good for them...i know that off the line my H23 feels like it pulled faster than my jdm h22...but what do i know

Please tell me you are joking. 1.6L with a 8000k redline has no torque. I'd say h22 has at least 40 ftlbs more. When I run at the track all b16 powered cars get horrendous 60ft times and if they can even make a comeback on my h23 its at the very end of the track.

i wasnt comparing the h22 to the b16...but if a b16 is running 12.7 stock and the h23 runs 12.5 they both have about the same low end power...not same numbers h23 = 158, b16 = should be driving a station wagon instead, but they are near equal in the 1000 so it could be a good race with same bolt ons...i think this guy is putting a little more than just bolt ons if he is sure he can beat you now after losing a couple of times to you previous...but than again i see stock civic with a MUGEN sticker on it try to take a lude so he could be anther one of them

you know how much of a loan he took out? $500 is alot of money for a broke college student to pay if he loses.

he sounds like a standard ricer to me, take his money. Its a benefit for you that your only racing 1000ft because the b16 makes all its power later, where as the Si makes its power at the beginning. If you really want to win, spend 300 dollars on a cheap used nitrous kit and in the end you will still pocket 200 dollars and you can sell the nitrous.

Does his Del Sol have the d16z6 or the b16a? Your h23a1 produces a hell of a lot more torque so you should get him off the line, but if he has a modded b16a then I'd say he'd eat you in the top end. If you get a ****ty start and he gets ahead of you off the line and he's running a modded b16a kiss your $500 good bye... Is he a good driver? Are you? If you were both equal .. it would all come down to hp vs. weight ratio ... and if he's running a modded b16a he has the advantage on both.. I have a friend with a 93 del slow with a d16z6 with some weight reduction, a cai and apexi exhaust and he can pull consistant 15.6's (in 1/4 mile). I would take that $500 you were going to use for the race and pick up a zex nitrous kit and just spray on this kid ... you'll win your money back.. just a thought.

please dont tempt me like that . i have a couple friends with nitrous so that might be an option if they wanna take the time to let me use it. this guy does spray a 75 shot though when he isnt going all motor. fortunetly i said i wanted to go motor vs. motor. does an engine that sprays weaken after a bit of use? if so, this could also be a advantage to me.

i also got a friend that knows him and he said he is gonna ask what parts he ordered, so ill have an idea what is up. they are probably some BS mods like pullies or a FPR. but just in case the little bastard bought cams, ill know. im a sneaky little bastage

later,
tim

Thanks for all the replies and help guys!
