what happened to my motor

ok guys i was driveing my 92 si on saturday i was geting on the highway and when i shifted from 3rd to 4th at 4k rpm my motor just didnt want to go and shout black smoke from the muffler the only way i can describe the sound it sounded like the car was runing on 3 cylinders and boging the car was still able to be turned on and even driven but would not go past 2k rpm and 40 mph we got the car to my house and took the head of thinking it was the head gasket but it was good does any one know what happened please help thanks

Jeez man you should've asked your question before you took off the head lol

Any check engine lights? What happens if you rev it in neutral?

it does the same thing only goes to 2k and i checked everything before i pulled the head the timeing was dead on all my sensiors where good only cel light was for a o2 sensior that i checked for

Getting spark on all cylinders?

I had similar problems when I had a bad TPS and MAP sensor. With the bad TPS the car would hesitate and barely move. With the MAP sensor, it would backfire and smoke like crazy. Measure the voltages coming out of the TPS and, if possible, see if you can borrow a MAP sensor to test out

all cylinders get spark can i will check the tps and map sensior when i get the head back from being tested

FYI, when you reinstall the head, use new bolts as they're supposed to stretch when you tighten them and the old ones are already stretched out ever so slightly....

ya i am useing arp head bolts with a hypertech head gasket

ok guys i got the head back the valve steams wernt bad just cloged so we will see what happens when i put the motor back togather on thrusday i have a filling it might be the ecu thats what my friend said happen to his buddys car
