What gear do you park in? ? MT owners

I was reading my owners manual the other day and I found that it says to set the parking brake and put the transmission into Reverse when parking. I've been trying to do it but it's not natural for me, 1st or 2nd usually, how bout all of you?

1st when on flats and facing uphill, and reverse when facing downhill. 1st/reverse hold the wheels tightest, and it is harder to roll downhill forward in reverse and roll downhill backwards in first (cause the transmision is hjolding the gears in the opposite direction).

I dont know if tat latter part made any sense to you... its kind of late.

Same here.

If I have been driving hard, when I park, if im on level ground, I dont set the parking brake. I heard that when the brakes are nice and toasty and you set the parking brake you can warp the rear rotors cause they cool un evenly. I belive it too, i had rear warped rotors on my 84 lude...

I almost always just put it in 1st. Maybe reverse if I am parked downhill but there are no hills around here so you could leave it in neutral if you wanted.

why wouldnt you set the ebrake?

would the rear brakes be not nearly as hot as the fronts, FWD?

meaning they'd cool off unevenly NO matter what, so whats the difference?

I pull it down into fourth and then set my ebrake. One smooth movement. Plus, I wouldn't leave just my ebrake on as it to be adjusted.

2nd gear here
i heard something that if someone bumps your car while youre parked and the car is in gear, you could seriously fvck up a synchro. you dont want your first gear synchro to go bad, thats for sure.

As for the hand brake failling I thought of a good analogy. When people park on a hill the either turn the wheel into or out from the curb (depending on which direction they are facing). Realistically the car is not gonna roll, but its just that extra protection. Same as why people with Automatics set the parking brake... I mean realisticly 'Park' will hold the car fine.

I put my parking brake on cause I had to get out of my car and use a phone... when I was on my phone I turned around and my car was rolling backwards, and it hit a Lincoln Continental. I had forgot to put it into first because I has only owned the car for amonth when it happened. I was sop mad at myself... but yes, the parking break went out. I had to pay $800 to fix the othr guys car. No I make sure it is in First or Reverse when I park.
