What does "Hub Centric" mean exactly?

Hey all,

Can someone tell me how a "hub centric wheel" is different from your "typical" wheel? I was doing some research into rims and came across some data on the stock Prelude rims...pertaining to the fact that they were "hub centric". What exactly does this mean?

I just bought a set of used 17" Axis Wheelsite Mesh mesh rims with a +40mm offset.

I know that you can purchase hub rings, which helps seat the wheel better to the hub...will I need to buy a set of these for the rims I just bought? If so, what size ring do I need for a '94 Si? Or can I just mount the rims straight onto my car?

I'm confused...

Thanks in advance for your help guys!
