Wow. That must be scary. I've never seen that happen. Sheck what the other guys said. If it's been awhile, do a flush and fill. Not sure why, but it couldn't hurt

that happened to me in my old accord.. your not overheating while driving cuse there is air circulating... but when you stop.. just gets hotter.

Turned out i had a hairline fracture in my radiator and was leaking.

It is more than likely due to a bad fan, or thermo switch.

The fan brush tends to wear out over time, especially on the low speed fan, which comes on when the temp reaches a certain level. Sometimes the thermo switch which activates it wears out.

When mine went bad I found out by banging on the housing, which would cause it to come on once the temp reached a certain level. The brush was worn out.

While your moving there is no need for the fan, so it won't get hot if thats the problem.

I've had this problem before. My car would go to the red while I'm sitting at a light. It would go down to the middle when I'm driving at highway speeds. All I did was replace my thermostat and flushed my coolant.

Does your fan stay on when you kill your engine? Mine did, I knew then and there that it was my thermostat. Go get a Honda one. Or while you're at it, why not get a Spoon one with a Spoon S2k thermo switch?

Well, from what you're describing, it's definately the thermostat, at least in my case it was. Let me ask you again, does your fan stay on once you've shut down the engine?

Cost? I think the Honda one should be around $30. My advice is to go the the Honda dealer and see if they have any in stock. If not, order it. In the mean time, I would go buy a cheap pepboys one or something. Having a crappy thermo is at least a little better than have the gauge pinned at red right? That reminds me, I need to get a Honda thermostat as well, I've been running a pepboys one since the summer.

It's located in the thermostat housing.
Ok, it's on the lower radiator hose, near the rear of the block. You MIGHT have the take off your intake to have easier access to it. There's like 2 or 3 bolts holding it to the block I think. All you do is unbolt them, take out your old thermostat and align the new one back up and bolt it back on. Drain your coolant before you take off the housing or the coolant will spill all over your engine. I found realized this the hard way. Shouldn't take more than 1 hour including draining and refilling your coolant. Good luck.

My car overheats mostly at night and when I am driving at night(like actually going 40 or more), but during the daytime, it almost refuses to overheat! I have a new radiator, new thermostat, and the fan works. There is 108,000 miles on the car.

It is probably your belts! Either replace them or tighten them up and the noise should go away!
