I was in driving 3rd gear, at around 7200rpm I tried to shift into 4th but hit 2nd. Now i'm worried, valve noiseis tapping and i havent rev past 4500rpm since then. please give some info what should i check for? if the worst what could happen?

thankyou for reply

how long were you in second before you realized your mistake?

chances are you may have bent some valves and in the real bad cases pistons could be damaged. if the car still runs but you're getting crazy valve tapping, then you probably just have bent a few valves

i had a similar experience where i went from 3rd to 2nd...but i wasn't in it for more than a split second. My valves were ticking pretty loud and i pulled the valve cover off and it just needed a valve lash adjustment. I guess the sudden impact of the mis-shift messed up some valves...so my first suggestion would be to check ur valve clearances...

i have done it many times and i am still running. <<knocks on A LOT of wood>> if you dont leave it there long, it shouldnt be too bad, if anything at all, considering honda put the fuel cutoff there so you wouldn't literally blow your engine

the fuel cutoff does nothing on a misshift

i did the exact same thing, do a compression test. In my case i bent some valves. doing a wet test will also tell you if you damaged anything in your block. I havent had it fixed yet but i am limping around on it, i wouldnt drive it too hard till you have had it checked out. it is an expensive mistake that many of us had made

I will admit, I have done it a couple times, but nothing has happend, but it's usually a 2nd to 3rd shift. I have missed 2nd too, from 1st. I cringe evertime, but I don't drive it hard anymore, very careful with the lude now

Hey guys, I can't understand how you can ever mis shift. I've never heard of it here in Europe. Probably people here are trained enought (every car here is stick), while in the USA every car is auto so you can't drive stick

I doubt EVERY car in Europe is stick. It's easy to misshift...most of the time you are trying to change gears too fast and don't push straight down...instead you push kind of diagonally.

haha, you guys are kidding right? OK maybe its the fact that you guys drive on the right hand side.

Basically when you shift you shift faster than your foot can engage and disengage the clutch; so you end up not in gear and scratching the hell out of it.

I miss shifted my Si from 3rd to 2nd at 6800rpm no bent valves, but when I had my motor apart for a rebuild the machine shop said the crank was bent. So I bought a brand new Honda crank!

I thought a misshift was when you shift into an unwanted gear. Like 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th.
