If im going to do a jdm h22a swap what model is best to start with and why? Also if anyone has or knows of any preludes for around 2k please let me know.
I personally wouldn't get a 4WS. I have heard way too many horror stories about the system tweeking out and sending people off the road.
My personally choice would be a '94 or '95 Si or SE. They came with all the bells and whistles (the SE even had leather and both had EL gauges). The conversion on an Si is also easier than on an S as you only need to add three wires for the swap. I would also look for one with the chassis pre-wired for VTEC (my '95 Si was )

Have you ever drivin a 4ws prelude. They are awsome. I would get one, you will have the best prelude if you do the vtec swap. I have a 93 4ws and I have never had a problem with it, the 4ws works like a dream.
^^ 4WS wont send you off the road. If it malfunctions, the car will drive like a normal fwd car. I love my 4WS, and the 4WS is the reason why I cannot part with my car.
If you want leather, go with a 95 SE, if not go with an 94 or 95 Si. The problem with the SE is that god awful black and tan interior.
hmm, just to be different ill say an S model. The S model has no ABS. Thus is lighter. The wiring isnt that bad, its like 6 wires to add. Its not a big deal. You can also pick up an S model for much less than a si or vtec. Also the insurance is technically cheaper.

what are you gonna do with the car? just drive it around and normal daily driving, i would say go with an Si 94-95, i have 93 and i love it, but i had to swap in the EL gauges... if you want to go all track beast, then S, for lightness factor, and cheapness since you are gonna be stripping and cutting it all up anyway. as far as 4ws, its subjective. its really fun to drive one, but it does add weight and leaves room for more stuff to break($$$) the other thing with 4ws is that its a PITA to find one...

Well ive had an Si and loved it but it got totalled and so now im thinking i wanna buy a new lude to do the swap on. It will be my daily driver. Would it be better to just try and find a vtec? I have 6500 from insurance for my Si, the poor thing :-(
If your wanting the h22a, why not just get the V-TEC model, like you previously questioned? I would understand if you were wanting to do a low mileage engine swap, but why not save the trouble and work and just get the V-TEC? If you can not afford to pay for the car, just save up some. But if your insurance gave you a nice chunk of money, than you should be set. Just keep your eyes out, in which I will try to do the same for you as well. The perfect opportunity and car will come your way when you least expect it.
I keep raving over this 94 V-TEC I saw in the classifieds of a performance magazine. It had 70k miles on the engine. But the only setback is that it is located overseas in Alberdeen, wherever that is. It also costs £4000 (in which I do not know the American dollar equivalency).
Broken Devil - I was unaware that the "S" model came without A/C. That's interesting. I have that model Prelude as well, but mine came with A/C. Living in FL, I guarantee I could not make it with a car without A/C. You are brave!

On the S model a/c was a factory option, Si and VTEC trim it was standard. Absolut, you just about summed up what owning a Prelude is all about.
i have a guy at work just starting to sell his. He is supposed to give me a flier tomorrow, but he is being really slow about it. He is one of those guys that loves his car, and is going to miss it when it finally goes. He is the original owner, and has done every kind of maintnence ever required. Its a good car if your looking for a stock VTEC. I will let you know the price as soon as i find out.
