Well, in my never ending quest to avoid boredom I began the JDM CC install today. I chose to go the "pull the whole F'n dash out" approach. Currently most of my interior is spread across my garage
I was able to get all wiring connections made save for the VSS which I will do tomorrow. I put the transistor in the old resistor spot and was able to install the evap sensor WITHOUT DRAINING THE A/C!!! All I had to do was tape the sensor to a length of wire coathanger. I then drilled a hole in the side of the evaporator in the correct spot. Then I just fed the sensor/hanger assy through the hole and secured the hanger to the outside. I used some silicone sealant around the wire and I was set
As for the airmix motor, I used the idea brought up in Forbidden's write-up. I used the USDM cable and have the motor moving that. It works beautifully I still need to find a place to mount it though, I will prolly do that when the dash goes back in.
I have powered up the unit and tested all the functions and everything seems to work perfectly.
As for why I chose to pull the dash out, it just seemed easier. I wanted to make it a very clean install and didn't want to break off my hand getting to the resistor. Also, how in the hell would you install the sunlight sensor with the dash in place
I will let you all know how tomorrow goes, I should have a 100% functional CC by the time I go to work @ 5:00
As far as we're concerned it does nothing. Nor does the outside temp sensor. The only sensors the JDM CC needs for full auto functionality is the In car temp sensor(THE most important sensor) and the evap sensor.. that's it! Everything else is meaningless.. but we all choose to install and wire them anyhow.
The sunlight sensor and outside air temp sensor are used for the auto function on the factory fitted climate control. They all play a part in getting the cabin temperature to what you set it at.
Well when I installed mine, I tried the auto function with just the in car temp sensor wired up, and it worked perfectly. I'd give heat to the sensor, and the CC would blow colder, and visa versa.
Well I finished the install today. It is now 100% fully functional on all modes. The cable drive airmix setup works perfectly. Putting the dash back in was a major pain as my alarm brain kept getting in the way. I managed to get it in though.
I am most proud of myself for figuring out the evap temp sensor thing, no draining/recharging for me
I do have a couple of bugs to work through though. My SRS light is on, I think I just need to pull the neg terminal on the batt to reset it though. Also, when I turn on the headlights the CC does dim but it dims to a point where I can almost not see the words anymore. Anyone else have this prob. It might be that I haven't seen it at night though, I will see tonight. I also hooked up my memory wire to the blk/yel wire that went to the old A/C thermostat and that apparently doesn't have 12V all the time (d'oh)!!
I really don't feel like tearing back into the dash right now, I will just deal with it and prolly fix it this weekend.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that put input into the write-ups and especially to Forbidden for getting the JDM diagrams. If I didn't have those I would never have been able to figure this thing out.
Is there any corrections on this that you would make ? (diagrams etc. seeing as your memory wire isnt proper... ) ?
Definately let us know where you grab this wire from and the color code .. somebody should compile a simple write-up for this ... how many hours in total did it take, did you work fast or doddle? ... i ask because I like to doddle and take my time. less mistakes..
Well I started at 1:30 on Thursday and spent 5 hours on it. I then spent about 3 more hours on Friday and I was done. I don't doddle when I work, I actually will dehhydrate myself because I get to into my work and forget to drink
I am planning on tapping my mem wire on my stereo harness and using that for the memory. I don't have any pics of the install (I really wish I had gotten one of my dash removed ).
Right now I am stressing more about the SRS light. I checked the code and it says there is an open in both pass and drivers airbags. I made the mistake of doing this install without pulling the battery terminals so the SRS computer saw the fact that I disconnected the airbags. I am hoping it is just a matter of clearing the memory in the computer. I will be taking it into the dealer to have them tell me exactly what I F'ed up.
I do have one question for you guys. When I have the headlights on and the unit is dimmed, are the buttons and words supposed to be lit up? The only thing I see backlit is the little LCD display that shows the temp/mode/fan symbols.

Yes. The A/C, Fan and Mode lettering above the three buttons should illuminate along with the red and blue arrows for the temp control.
Well it is to late for while it is in peices. I have the whole thing back together. As for the cable I just tied it to the bracket with some aluminum wire so that the sleeve wouldn't move. It is about as ghettofied as you can get but it works.
The evap sensor was very simple. I just black-taped the sensor to a straight peice of coathanger. I then drilled a hole in the side of the evap housing about 1/2" toward the pass side from the USDM A/C thermostat hole. I then just fed the sensor/hanger thing through that hole and screwed the end of the coathanger (bent into a ring) to the side of the evap and I was done. I sealed the hole with some silicone to make sure there was a good seal.
I will try and get some pics when I can but I have no digicam.
As for the backlights, how do I fix that. Is there bulbs in the back that are burnt out or am I just screwed?
it may be a flaw in the wiring, or it may be that everyones just seems to be broken, but I don't think anyone on here has one they got off ebay that has the lettering light up. I don't, but I wanted it that way.
I wanted this thing to be as JDM stock as possible, not to mention it is annoying to try and adjust things without seeing the buttons. Maybe when I am in there fixing the mem wire I will look inside the CC and see it there are bulbs to replace.
Yeah, I pulled the CC out and took it apart. There are four bulbs in the back of the face that had to be changed. I pulled the bulbs out of my old unit and in they went to the JDM CC. I wasn't able to replace the one that lights up the defroster and it is one of those tiny ones. I don't mind so much, I will eventually find a bulb.
So as it sits now I have a 99.999999% functional JDM CC
Geez, I go away for the weekend and there's another fully functional JDM CC, nice job man
I have some lights that don't light up too, sometime they do but very rarely. Also when you turn on the headlight the display will dimm and you won't be able to see a thing during the day, this is like the clock on many Prelude including mine, if I can figure out a way to make it work with the dimmer switch I'll be sure to let you guys know but for now I need to buy the rest of the parts I need and finish it up and update my write up. When I get my first pay of august, I'm ordering
