yep, the infamous shift of 3rd to 4th. Redline 3rd then shift, wait its notchy, wait its not going into 4th, as your playing with the shifter, the cluth comes out, and waaaaaammmmm.
My rpm needel went all the way to were the 10 mph mark is on the speedometer. I have no VAFC, but im guessing that it was around 10k or higher. I was like sh*t i just blew it up.
I thought the timing belt was gone.
But then i got off on the ramp, let it come down to an idle, and its just as good as is was before i did it. I got out and listened to it run, purrs like a tiger! Runs perfect, how lucky am I, well maybe some is finally starting to come my way.
yes i have one of your shifters, and yes it helps very much, i dont think i was paying that much attention to the gear, i had someone i my car, and i was trying to do one of those super fast shifts, where i should have slowed down and grabbed the gear, that will never happen again! by the way man, the shifter , after a year of abuse now, is still holding up strong!
I read on some other thread that your shifter helps with this 3rd to 4th problem although ive never realy experienced this myself. Is this true?
Yea, thats why I asked. Due to the short shift I find it almost impossible to do that mis shift. I used to have problems with it at the track until I got a short shifter installed.
How can you hit such a high RPM, doesn't the fuel cut off prevent you from revving so high?

The fuel can cutoff all it wants, but if you shift from 3rd to 2nd, all the rotating assembly will drastically speed up because of gearing. The fuel will be shut off at regular redline, but the engine will keep spinning.
This is what is refered to as a mechanical over rev.
BTW, the motor never would have made it to 13k+ rpms...it would have trashed itself no later than 11k. I am guessing you just did this calculation based on 7600rpm in 3rd then switching to the 2nd gear ratio.
well all i can say is that, i went from redline in 3rd to second, fast and the tach needle went all the way past the end of the tach reading, and down inbetween the o and 20 on the mph guage. But runs awsome still!!
i have a program on my computer formatted from a guy of honda-tech. i input my tire size, final drive. actual gear ratio, vehicle speed. wheel radius etc, etc. like i said it was around 13,xxxish it was either 13,847 or 13,487. my valves did not like that. nor did the crank. and voila. i have a new motor . i'm surprised the tranny held up though.

get it checked by a compitent mechanic. there might be damage you may not be aware of (im sure there is).
