weird vibrations...please help troubleshoot

recently ive been feeling a weird shaking/vibrating in the steering wheel and gas pedal when im accelerating. it mostly happens when im going about 50 mph or faster. at first i thought it was the inner cv joint but i replaced the axle yesterday and the problem is still there. also, the car seems to "jerk" a little when im switching gears...its hard to explain but it seems like the motor is moving when i let go of the clutch a little. same thing happens when im shifting gears. could this be a motor mount? how do i check to see if the mounts are good? im gonna rotate my tires today to see if it solves the shaking problem while accelerating but i know that wont solve the jerking probelm. any one have any ideas as to whats wrong with the car? any help would be great. thanks

if you can, and it's monetarily feasible at the moment, get your tires balanced. If I'm wrong, what can I say, at least you've eliminated another possibility.

Have you done any work lately that required to take one or some motor mounts off ? Does it feel rough when the car is at idle ? like do you feel the vibration at all when your sittin in the car while its idling and you have your hands on the the steering wheel and slightly touching the pedals with your feet ? if so, then your motor mounts must be going bad. more commonly the driver side mount, and probly the front. Care to check those. If you say that you feel the engine move, and you feel it more when you shift gears, thats probly it then. What it is is that when you hit the clutch, since there is no throttle the vibration from the engine running is sent to the body, and since your mounts which are made out of rubber might be bad, you feel all the vibration from the engine. thus is why i m asking you if it vibrates the same when you are idling, cause it would do the same thing. Test it out at idle, then check your mounts too.

4thGenReady2Go - i rotated a couple of the tires around today and the problem still exists...so i dont think its the tires/rims

si_g - the only work ive done recently besides replacing the axle yesterday was installing a cusco strut bar....car feels perfectly fine when at idle. it idles SLIGHTLY rough but i think thats due to my balance shaft belt being removed. the "jerking" while driving is really hard to explain. its like im in neutral and im going to first, it feels like the motor is lurching foward as im releasing the clutch. kinda like how it feels when you let go of the clutch really fast, but its doing it when i release it slowly. it actually is a little better when im driving but thats due to me applying more gas and releasing the clutch a lot slower then before...

this really has me stumped...all the bolts are on tightly, its not the rims/tires, axle was replaced yesterday...dont know what else it could be

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!

totheexact, if the tires/wheels need balancing, rotating them won't do anything for ya. Weights are weights, and if they're not there, regardless which hub the wheel is on, it'll be out of whack. Like i said, if you can afford it at the moment, get your tires balanced and see if that helps.

Back to mounts - the symptoms sound similar to a problem my friend had with his car - he found it was hard to get a smooth shift between gear changes

I had the same problem. At aboout 50-60 mph my car would vibrate only while hitting the gas. I had the tires rebalanced to no avail. I noticed my passenger side cv boot was leaking so I replaced that....problem has been solved.

if it's the front, or driver side, or tranny mount... i guess you could just try to look at them and see if they are cracking or not when i had no front bracket (and so the front mount was sitting there not doing anything not connected to the engine), i got something like what you're describing... for the back mount, i think you have to go under the car, which is a pain (i'm lazy) but yea... i guess you could just try your best to look at them of course there is crap in the way, and maybe there's another way for them to fail, so anyone up in here that sees that this is wrong correct me, but it cna't hurt to look at them, and look for cracks...

Also check all the nuts and bolts of the suspension, pay special attenion to the radius rods. Get an alignment done if possible. Recently on of my radius rods became loose and caused the car to vibrate strange, pull weird under braking/acceleration, and make funny thunking sounds.
