weird tranny problem

I was driving to work today and when I shifted from 2nd to 3rd (at 6500) it popped out of 3rd. as soon as it did that I knew not to jam the gas, so there are no bent valves (it still runs perfectly) but now sometimes there is a real weird spongy feeling when I shift into 3rd. it doesn't "click" into gear and there is a real light sounding grinding noise coming from somewhere other than the tranny itself.

It’s a JDM H22 engine and tranny with about 42000 miles on it, and I have the 4bidden short shifter set on the middle setting.

I have not looked under the console yet, but I plan to tomorrow after work. Has anyone had any experiences like this? give me some other options on what to check out while I’m looking.

Thanks

Look under the console for possible interference with the shifter. Mine was binding for a week until I looked under the console and the boot plate had come unclipped and was hitting the shifter (my friend had pushed really hard on the console trying to get out of the car). Clipped it back in and was good to go.

Hope this is the source of your problem, and that your tranny is a-okay

well it appears that i might have slightly bent a shift fork, its going into gear, but not easily.
first and second are easy, then 3rd is very "mushy" feeling (like it doesn't want to go in) and 4th is hard to find shifting from 3rd.

I believe there was a bulletin about a bent shift fork, but I think it was the 1st/2nd shift fork. If it is hard to put in, it could very likely be a bent fork. I had to replace one of mine, but I just don't remember which one (it's been a while) In any case, I experienced the same symptoms. It could also be worn teeth on your gears. This will cause you to pop out of gear while driving. Good luck
