Weird metalic tapping when accelerating?

When ever I accelerate after 3k rpm I hear a metalic tapping sound coming from the engine, whery rythmetic. The engine is h23 with 80k miles that is in excelent condition with No hesitations. I tried using different gas but it didn't help.
Engine is all stock axcept AEM intake.

Any clue what it could be?

could be a loose exhaust bracket... get under the car and see if you can move the exhaust up/down and left/right

Could be a number thing, is it a tapping or a rattle?

A tapping - you may need a valve adjustment, as noisy tappets will sound like a set of typewriters, and when you rev up with the engine under load, add more typewriters.

A clunky type metal tapping - probably engine knock, only happens under load though. Under load I mean going up hill or full up on passengers.

A higher-pitched rattle - heat shield for the stock cat or stock headerd if you still got them?

mine was making that clucking noise...it sounds like engine knock butits may not be....disconect the tps plug and pull on it...if that causes the clanking noise then itsd this metal bracket under the intake manifold....

I have a extemely similar problem. 95 VTEC , it only happens after the car gets hot. b/w3-4K RPM, it sounds kinda like a scratching metal noise, it gets pretty bad on the freeway when the car has been driving for awhile. I dunno how to fix it cause it's really hard to duplicate, and it doesn't happen when I'm in neutral, so crap.. If anyone knows.

It only heppens after 3k rpm when the engine is under loard-accelerating. The only thing I can relate the sound to is when stalling the engine under load, at the last second there would be that funky clunk metallic sound.

I just hope it's not something serious that would cause damage to the egnine over time or break the timing belt. It does seem to be slightly loose, I don't know if that's how it should be or not. I remeber in my VTEC it was failry tight.

That's what we like to call valve noise. All h23s get it eventually, mine did around 100k. Doesn't matter how perfectly the valves are adjusted, it'll still be there. I've got one noisy valve. I live with it.

or... from experience

I heard somewhat of same noise with mine

I thought it was valves , heard it from valve cover

but it was tension on timing belt, only happened when rpms were above 3k

if you not sure how old your belt is it might have stretched and is making the noise, check (turn the crank and keep feeling the tension on the belt all the way around) , and if belt is not worn retension and see if it goes away
